Sort of new to CalGuns and new to the M&P. I want to get an M&P 40 and like the VTAC or looking for a regular fullsize in FDE. Are either of these legal in CA? I was trying to figure it out by looking at the roster but without having the part number it seems a bit harder to figure it out. Any help would be great. Thanks.

You should be able to get any M&P thorugh the SSE process. I just picked up an M&P9 Talo by finding it on my own and having Tracy Rifle and Pistol do the FFL and SSE.

Thanks! Nah it's not the CORE; I had it milled/cerakoted by Mark Housel at L&M Precision. I went a little overboard since its my first handgun, but now that it's finished I understand the addiction haha, can't wait to get more M&Ps

Waiting for Davidson's to get a M&P9 to my LGS where I have one on reserve for my first gun purchase...I have been keeping my eye out for a M&P 22 but also pretty hard to come by right now too!

Kind of frustrating, but hopefully worth the wait!

I would go .40 and then you can shoot 9mm and .357 Sig out of it with barrel changes. The .45 is a bigger framed gun and I'm not a huge fan of it. Best choice would be to rent them both and see what you like.

Default Not Happy With S&W

Picked up my M&P 40 the day before Christmas, ran several mags of snap caps through it, and the trigger mechanism started slipping off the lever that releases the firing pin. It's been in the shop where I bought it since the 26th. S&W took the holidays off so it couldn't be sent back before the first of the year. After the first of the year the store wasn't able to get a hold of anyone there (S&W) until the 8th. They still haven't received the shipping label to send it back. At this rate I won't have my gun until some time in February. So far, my experience with S&W has been very unfavorable. I'm beginning to think I made a bad choice going with S&W.

Do you not have a certified S&W armorer available? That is a simple fix that doesn't require going back to the factory for.

Calling BS on the runaround you're getting from your local gun store. I don't think S&W is to blame for the delay. Call S&W yourself and I'll bet you get a return ticket (RMA) on the phone.

I did call them, the way there process works is, they create a return ticket that then goes to FedEx. FedEx the sends out a return label, either by mail or by email, which ever the customer prefers.
The bottom line is I never received a return label from FedEx and neither has the gun store.

I wouldn't blame S&W entirely. Every manufacturer is slammed with back logs of orders from the panic going on. My advice would be to call them again and explain you haven't received a shipping label yet. They should be able to email it directly to you and then you drop it off at FedEx.

Yes, call them. I sent an email a few weeks ago but have not heard back. I called and after being on hold for 10 minutes they took care of me right away.

Talking The ORIGINAL M&P

Yeah it was posted somewhere about #159, but that was over 1 1/2 years ago

38spl, marked 1914, probably build more like 1926 for NYPD (not worth a lot, but I like it - a lot ).

Just picked up a compact so I thought I'd share. I normally shoot Real Estate but I thought I'd bust out the 85mm 1.8 for this one ...

Default The new one.

New to the forums, not so new to California, the M&P 40 picked up before x-mas.

Son and I both enjoy shooting this. Really nice grip, good accuracy too.....

Seems like the Steamlight is the preferred light for these fellas....

I had the opportunity to shoot an M&P Shield 40 last weekend. My wife and I were at the range in Concord shooting her M&P 40c and a guy sets up next to us with a Shield. He said because he was in law enforcement he was able to get a non California version from out of state. That shield has a bit more kick than my wife's compact. I would like to shoot about 50 rounds through it before I made a decision to buy one in a 40.
