But, your point makes sense and a SIG P210, P226 Legion SAO should be on my list. i should probably buy any gun I just want to try for awhile. I do have an "out" in that parents can transfer me guns as gifts for the time being. If I wanted to make a profit, I would just buy a stack of Glock 43's and Legions
If you shoot as much as you say and only have around $2K to spend on off roster gun before moving to CA, then you might as well save that money for ammo.

Seriously, if I was out of state and moving to CA, I'd invest in as many guns that piques my interest and sell whatever I don't like when I get here.

Take a loan and buy all those guns mentioned above. Sell them at 50% profit (Calguns charity prices, frankly) and pay back the loan while keeping the profit. Don't limit yourself to $2000. Or max out your credit card, pay the balance in full in 30 days.

Sig P320s are selling a lot on the marketplace. If you want to make an investment, there are better choices.

I'd invest in AR-pistols, Sig MPXs, CZ Scorpion pistols, etc. before coming here. Or just purchase a bunch of stripped "pistol" (obviously important they were registered and imported to CA as pistols) lowers and call it a day. Buy compliant devices to make it fixed mag and then PPT five every year. Then you can find me sitting on a beach earning 20%.

Just to shoot, I'd buy a bunch of 9mm polymer striker guns because I like them (RTF2 glocks, VP9, PPQ M2, CZ P10, special M&Ps [Performance Center, CORE, etc.], a P320 RX w/ X-series conversion kit) and to slightly change things up I really like the Springfield Armory Loaded Combat Operator in 9MM as well).

This. Go way over the $2K budget, get the ones you want plus some that will get a nice profit by selling here. Use profits to pay for the guns you keep, everything is paid for in full within hopefully 30 days, no less than 60 days. You get the guns you want, people here in CA get guns we can't usually get. It just seems like a win-win. Obviously, buy the guns with the intention of them being for you. I'm not encouraging anyone lying on their form 4473 or anything.

Youíre moving to kaliforniastan and worried about a few piddling guns. Why are you moving here?? Thatís the question you need to have answered.

Itís so much more than guns. Every aspect of your life is regulated and controlled. Everything is taxed to hell. You have no idea what itís like.

By some time Iím assuming itís going to be temporary. Alas, nothing is ever temporary. Unless you are moving from New York or some other state with similar laws, stay away. It isnít worth it. Your temporary will become 20 years all to easily. And well, if itís easily, then a few guns ainít gonna make much diff anyways.

Donít move here. Unless of course sheís 5í11Ē 115lbs and can suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. And can field strip an AR and 1911 blindfolded. But then again, why would someone like that ever step foot in this place.

CZ Shadow 2
Glock 43 for CCW

And I'd say ammo but you don't want to get arrested for trafficking that illegal stuff here! Sorry for your loss

$2K?

Seriously buy 4 Gen 5 Glocks and double that here in a week. Then use the profits on higher taxes, gas, and legal weed.

Look at the market place, I see plenty of Gen 5 Glocks that are constantly getting bumped up daily with no one interested in paying the mark up.

Iím not saying youíre planning to sell the pistols you buy, but do us serfs a favor and bring some goodies onto the market.

Like others have said Iíd load up on polymer pistols that arenít available here. CZ and Canik would be my first choice.

I will not buy any revolvers since every Ruger and S&W I want in the future is on the roster.

So here is the GAME (for you overly dour Calgunners):

You have a budget of $2,000 or so to buy off roster guns prior to landing in CaliGulag. Mags and accessories are not neededóguns only! What semi-automatic off roster handguns would you buy?

I do want suggestions, but here is where I am at now (prices include shipping and transfer):

S&W M&P 45 M2.0 ($471)

S&W M&P 45 Compact ($452)

Glock 43($469)

FN 509 ($499)

Sig 220 10MM SA/DA. PM me when your arrive.

Sorry for the late reply. I forgot to check back here. (warning, temporary thread-jack).

Yes Sir there is a "secret" -- you have to own it for at least several months, fondle and tinker around with it at home, learn about it and shoot it a lot.

That is not meant as sarcasm, but it's true for just about every pistol.

I used to believe in "renting" a gun to try it out. Instead, what I have done to any pistol I am curious about is to actually buy it from the used market and experience its ownership for at least 6 months.

If I like it, I keep it. If I don't like it, I sell it for about the same price I bought it for. I may even make a little money... but more importantly I learned a lot about it. I have done this for several dozen pistols.

I can't count the times:

I ended up liking a gun I initially didn't like.
I ended up not liking a gun I initially liked.
I ended up not liking a gun I tried really hard to like.
Liking a gun a lot more than I already like it.
Realizing my favorite guns are the same ones over and over.

I have a couple of guns I bought and sold twice over because they were ugly but I missed them after I selling.

I also know for sure, I haven't had a gun I HATE.

For the HK in particular, they are extremely special. There is no polymer pistol of its quality and price point. Some come close, but there is no manufacturer that comes close to its engineering excellence.

The VP (Striker Fired) series is a line that is immediately likable because of its crisp striker fired trigger and comfortable grip. The DA/SA Hammer Fired Lines, including the LEM variants, are a different story. You have to practice on them a lot, and you may even tweak them. You have to like hammer-fired to like them.

At the end of the day, owning an HK means you own the best. It's up to you to do what it takes to fully appreciate the engineering that went into it and to capably use it. This is not likely to happen with a couple range trips.

We are lucky to still have access to them, even if the new ones are off roster.

That is just my opinion, but hope that helps.

(apologizing for the thread jack).
