In original 'sport' configuration, this should not need a magazine locking device. I'm down for whichever version is cheaper.

Incorrect I belive, semi auto shotgun with detachable magazine is an AW. Double check the AW flow chart.

I am also interested pending price and an FFL in my area who is willing to receive a S12.

Yep. Semi-auto shotgun with detachable magazine is a big no-no in California. Therefore any configuration of Saiga-12 will require a bullet button. Also, bear in mind that you can convert these to a pistol grip configuration without any problems with the law but they may not have any other "evil" features without being an assault weapon (ie: no adjustable stock or vertical fore grip).

That being said, I may be in for as many as four of these. I will PM you with the exact count.

Correct , because it has a removable mag and is a shotgun it is in the AW category of sorts. All saiga 12s require a bullet button in Kalifernia, featureless or not

+1

This is great info , and correct . You can move the trigger guard, add a pistol grip, get some work done on the gas system and get some new furniture up front. Add a muzzle break ( as long as the word flash hider doesn't come up ) But no adjustable stocks and no forward grips

All the transactions will be through Atlantic directly .

Could you elaborate on what you mean by the "newer model???"

Your post doesn't label either model as such.

Neither of the models above are technically the newest production run.

The difference is that now the guns aren't produced with a side mount optic rail and the formerly pixelated stamps from the importer are now not pixelated out ....that is the only difference .

The model we are choosing is nearly identical to the non converted model in the original post but with the differences i explain above in this post. I have an email into atlantic to make sure that if we did so desire we could have an optic mount installed aftermarket. I think this may have to do with importing shotguns that aren't considered sporting guns ...but i could be wrong about that .

If I ordered on via the GB could I also have Atlantic to modifications in addition at my own expense before them shipping it out? I am thinking about a gas system upgrade. Thanks.

Darn, I just bought my second one last month for $700.00...patience sometimes comes in handy. Plus it probably needs to gas holes drilled!!

Well, someone is getting a smoking deal. You can't go wrong with a saiga, they are tough guns, and they are versatile too, plus less recoil than a pump BY FAR.

I recommend you all buy a recoil pad just to make it shoot like a mercedes.

Hmmm... I've owned an s12 for about 18 months and there is no side-mount optics rail...

Recoil? They have less recoil than a .308! No recoil pad is needed unless you have shoulders of butter...

Also, $500 is a decent deal but nothing crazy. I paid less than that OTD ~18 months ago. For those willing to wait 6+ months, the price will go down. There's just this "sporting" scare going on right now. Remember 2008??? Obummer?

150 rounds? Is that all? That's only 15 mags... I've done at least four times that shooting trap loads.

OOO buck doesn't even have much recoil in a SA shotgun. I've put over 100 shells of OOO through my saiga in a day no problem, no bruises. Mine is bone stock too, except for the bullet button and poly choke II, which I open up to cylinder for OOO anyways so it may as well not even be there.

If it fits you better that's good, but it seems a bit silly to me to act like trap loads have strong recoil in an S12.

Not sure what the difference is between your saiga and the ones with the side mounted optic rail . I would ask someone who i more knowledgeable on saiga 12s . All i know is what i read and what i've learned from different dealers.

my guess it's the ability to do something like this

http://www.google.com/imgres?q=saiga...t:429,r:3,s:36

Not that the rail is included but it has points where it can be mounted.

Do me a favor, if you want to thread crap, do it elsewhere. This is not a discussion about saiga 12's , or buckshot or recoil....this is about a group buy if you're not interested , please do not continue to post in this forum

Well mine has the mounting points for sure, just no rail. They got rid of the mounting points? Lame.

Yes, it probably has to do with making it a non-sporting shotgun. But i assume we'll be able have the points machined in

I know!!!!

So, there's a maximum number of holes they're allowed to drill, so they stopped drilling the side mounting points to be able to properly drill the gas tube!!!

I keed of course. I got lucky with the one I already got, shoots everything with no mods, don't even have to use the gas adjustment knob.

I'd be down with a converted model, but the Atlantic versions are a bit vanilla, IMHO. Also, their prices for the converted model, given the parts they use, are absurd.

I'd rather convert one myself, since I already have one in sporter config. Honestly, I've shot both and I think the sporter model handles much better. Some say the trigger is better when it's converted but we're talking about a shotgun here, not a precision rifle, so I don't even notice.

Well price doesn't matter but hopefully it will be better that 750 as theirs a store near me selling at that price already. Saigas use to be dirt cheap and now we have to do group buys for a good deal.

Correct, but at no time were they selling for 4-500 already converted. If you found one near you for 750 converted, jump on that deal. The money I spent on the conversion kit for mine was 300 alone (tromix stock, pistol grip, new trigger).

Tagged for group buy price. Atlantic is the man.

Well its the regular s12 w/o the side rail which is unfortunate. I would rather go for the converted version with the side rail at group buy price if possible.

so am I understanding correctly - the price is $500 plus shipping for non-railed version? (based on yesterday's update in original post)... Or are we waiting for cheaper price?...
