There are a couple of differences,

you rig up for a known target.

On a long range boat we might get into some #25 schoolies that will bite better on #20 but then some one gets spooled or a bigger fish hits the deck.

That's when you grab a larger rod or tie in heavier flouro, maybe #30 or #40.

I spooled up the last 2 rods with #80,

(i would say they rate #40 and #60 rods)

#80 is a lot less slicey than #55 and i'm not concerned about giving up a little line capacity in exchange since i gained so much over using mono.
