Super late to this CCW party! Congrats to all those who got theirs!!

I've looked through probably like 10 pages of this thread and I just can't seem to find the instructions on how to start this process. I live in SoCal and I'm very interested in getting my AZ and/or UT ccw permit. (Not sure if there's a difference between each state?)

Could someone point me to the right page of how to start this whole entire process? Thank you in advance!

Go here and request AZ send you a CCW application packet. It includes all the info you’ll need to apply. You may qualify for a training exemption or you may need to seek out training/class to qualify.

https://www.azdps.gov/services/public/cwp

AZ and UT are fairly comparable. The difference in Reciprocity at the current time is that AZ shares it with NM and not WA. UT has Reciprocity with WA but not NM.

If you want, I have AZ applications on hand that I can give you. I can also roll your prints for a small fee and, if you need it, give you a class to satisfy the training requirements.

Look up 5 arrows in San Dimas. He does the class and fingerprints. After the call all you need is to put stamps on the envelope and mail a money order

I reached out to him and he's super cool. 2 of my buddies, myself as well, signed up to take the course with him. I recommend you reach out to him and discuss what you're looking to do. He seems very knowledgable.

I'm getting things prepped for my move to Wyoming in the second half of the year. I decided on the AZ non-resident as it seems to cover a great extent of states--the packet is on the way.

I noticed that the courses qualifications said any NRA safety course. I'm assuming this includes the NRA Range Safety Officer Course I took?

If that's the case, is there an appropriate document that I should send as verification?

There's a generic looking certificate that bears my name and a Range Safety Officer Card that has an ID number and expiration date.

I suppose I could send both...

Thank you for any advice.

Your certificate may be OK for AZ... I'd call to be sure.
Florida requires the instructor's name and ID number on the cert.

This thread brings a tear of joy to my eyes.
Only thing topping it is that in a few months my permit will no longer be "non-resident".
Guess I won't be able to post in my own thread then.

AZ CCW Update- So I called AZ DPS today to get status on my application that was mailed on 2/7. They said they received and checked it in on 2/12 and that I was approved 3/20, she said the Permit was mailed out this morning. Total of 37 days from check in date to mail date .... I'll take that!

I read through the thread, but just want to confirm: If I hold a CA CCW that satisfies the training requirement? What do I do, just photocopy my CA CCW and mail it in with the application and finger print cards?

Thanks.

Copy of your CA CCW along with your CA DL and submit them with the app.

I don't even recall sending a copy of my DL, just a copy of the front of my CCW. In fact, the application instructions do not mention a DL copy is needed.

Just looked and you are correct. I sent it out of habit from CA CCW requirement.

Yep... It's a bit silly.
For training, they do not accept online training, but they will accept a copy of any currently valid CCW.
Virginia accepts online training.
Take online class, get VA permit, send copy of VA permit to AZ, receive AZ permit.
No need to pay to renew the VA permit when it expires, as the active AZ permit is sufficient for renewal.

If I send a copy of my CA CCW, what do I fill in the "firearms qualification and statutory review affidavit"?
Orange County Sheriff's Department?

Go to a cross roads gun show and look for the booth. I forget the name. It’s pricy at $150 but they take care of the class and all the paperwork.

Paying $150 for a 'class' to get a AZ CCW is silly.

Can someone refresh me on the rules in AZ for CCW holder, when a business has the ‘NO FIREARMS’ sign posted? I have noticed that a lot if not most chain restaurants around Phoenix have these posted on or near the entry door. Must you disarm to legally enter? or is carry inside fine, and just must leave if told to do so by management?

Thx

Any “posted” buildings, a building is posted if it is:
Posted in a conspicuous location accessible to the general public and immediately adjacent to the liquor license posted on the licensed premises.
Contain a pictogram that shows a firearm within a red circle and a diagonal red line across the firearm.
Contain the words, "no firearms allowed pursuant to A.R.S. section 4-229".

I would recommend getting the CCW app for your phone

I have it, just not real great at reading comprehension of 'lawyer speak'. Wow, so that looks like it limits a lot of eating establishments in Phoenix...

I don't typically like chain restaurants, but when out there for work I like to join in on where everyone happens to be going...
