Default Small Pocket 9mm suggestions

Hey everyone,

I am in search for my next handgun, again! I currently have a glock 19 and shield that takes care of my IWB needs, but am looking for suggestions for a pocket-sized 9mm. I'd love to hear any and all opinions.

Also, if you happen to live in southern CA, and have something along these lines you'd like to get rid of, feel free to PM me; don't post it under this thread because I don't want to break forum rules.

SIG Sauer P938.
Beretta Nano.
Ruger LC9

Havent shot any of these but
I don't think your going to get a reliable pocket 9 that is all that much smaller than the shield.

Im trying to think of what the heck is roster available and is still smaller than the Shield or the Glock 26. The new Bond Bullpup 9mm would be a perfect pocket pistol but not roster approved. That's the only one I can think of in 9mm. They start going into smaller calibers after that. Im interested to hear other recommendations. Heres the Bond.>>> https://bondarms.com/bond-arms-handg...-arms-bullpup/

None of these are on the roster so used gun sellers would probably ask for a premium price for them. There also not much smaller than the Shield or the G26.

I don’t know if there is a pocket 9mm. I had a lc9 years ago and wouldn’t consider it a pocket pistol. My LCP fits in my pocket comfortably - however, it’s a .380.

Maybe a pm9? Had one but hated the trigger.

+1 on the sig 938. I don't have one but I'd like to get one...if they were on roster and not so expensive on the second hand market.

I do have experience with the ruger lc9. Nice little gun. Recoil is pretty stiff, and the trigger pull is a mile long but when you get used to it it works just fine.

Im thinking the same thing. Anything small enough for pocket carry in a semi auto becomes a .380 or .25ACP. Ill say one thing though. My Glock 26 hides nicely in my front jeans pocket with the proper holster. Only thing though I'm a big guy with big pants.

Just about the only true 9mm pocket gun you can get here in California but may not be what you're looking for. http://www.guntherguns.com/product-p/cob-cb9br.htm

You might want to consider a 380?
The new offerings in 380 SD ammo puts a pretty nice round down a short barrel 380.
Not many "real" pocket pistols in 9mm. Many will disagree.
Lc380, P380, G42, Seecamp.
I've carried a old S&W mod 37 38spcl revolver in my front pocket?
Lots of "off roster" offerings in the marketplace.

PM9 is smaller than my wallet, really pocket sized.
I changed spring and much better.

sig 938 is the best if you HAVE to have a 9mm. I have carried the 238 for almost a decade in my pocket EVERY day. Never felt "unarmed"

I would like to see that smith 57 - my smith 57 is a .41 Mag with a 6" barrel - it won't fit in my pocket

LCP .380 disappears in a pocket. Load it with Underwood or Lehigh Xtreme Penetrators or Xtreme Defenders for effect. PM9 or P938 fit pretty well in certain jeans like Wranglers and cargo pants. G43 fits in certain pockets, but is a bit big for many. Desantis Superfly, Nemesis, and Sticky or Remora Holsters work well for pockets, with the Sticky/Remora Holsters also working for IWB. If you want a pocketable .45 for certain pants, the XDs 3.3 .45 Works well, but with limited capacity. But, you can also pocket a G26 if you start heading into the 26 oz territory like a loaded XDs. Remember, half the fun is the hunt. Good luck!

It would go and handle a kahr pm9 and see what you think, then go from there.

Maybe a Kahr MK9 or PM9 if you dont mind a light revolver-like trigger. I liked my K9, still regret selling it.

Both my LCPs have not had any feeding issues with Underwood Xtreme .380. I mix them with XTPs in each magazine for effect. They do state that the P238 and the P380 might have issues, but not all owners of those pistols have had issues. I haven’t shot Underwood in 9mm. My PM9, P938 and G43 did shoot one magazine each of Buffalo Bore Hardcast in 9mm, as I wanted to see if I could carry a pocket 9 in the woods on day hikes with that ammo. I limited each to one mag, as I wanted to save the rest that I had stashed away. So, perhaps not a good representative sample of that ammo.

I havent shot one yet, but the Sig P365 is similar in size to the Shield but is 10+1. Maybe get bigger pockets?

Cargo Pants! For pocket, 9mm may be too bulky.

PM or CM9 some of the smallest. Or Ruger LC9. The LC9 is seems to be one of the few off roster pistols that is not at a premium. But will have a safety plus long trigger. Some really like this for "safety" and others see this a a no-go. Maybe why price not doubled even though off roster. All the "features".

LCP 380 is truly pocketable. If okay with this caliber, get one. I've seen them in classifieds not that inflated. In other states they go for $200-225!!! But expect to pay anywhere from 400-500 in CA. Sometimes less. But jump on it when found. They go fast. And are highly regarded for a reason. True pocket carry.

Diamondback DB9. Punishing to shoot but you won't mind that if you really need to use it.

Depends on your clothing as well. More fitted jeans will require something smaller than a shield. I have several pairs of Lucky Brand Jeans that even though they are more fitted to me, will sink my entire Shield in the front pocket.

Always make sure to get a pocket holster though and don't put anything ELSE in that pocket.

The only one I would recommend for pocket carry is the Kahr PM9/CM9. All others are too big IMO

I usually pocket carry an LCP. I've had an LC9 and it's too big for pocket carry.

The one pocketable 9mm I have is off roster and very rare in Calif. But I see them come up in CG marketplace a couple times a year. And because few ppl pay attention the California markup isn't anything like a walther pps or a G43.

Sig P290rs. It's DAO with a long trigger pull and reset. But if you can get used to it it's a great little gun. It's way smaller than a G26.

I just find it a lot easier to pocket carry a .380 or .25

Another vote for the PM9 also like the Ruger LCR in .38 or 9mm.
The Ruger 5 shot DAO are light little revolvers that always go bang. 14oz empty in 38 and 17oz in 9mm.

I carry my Shield with Magguts mags in pocket often, very concealable IMHO..

If you want something very small, i would go with a 380. the ruger lcp is an extremely pocketable gun. If you want something slightly larger but way more accurate and comfortable to shoot, I would go with the sig p238.

I have a CM9 that is the same size as a PM9, realistically speaking.... pocket carry isn’t going to happen with it, if you’re a jeans guy... unless you’re a big dude and have huge pockets on your jeans

If you wear cargo pants or slacks, then yes, you will be able to fit it in your pocket and draw it depending on the pants you buy.

I do have a Diamondback DB9 that sits in the safe, it is about as big as an LCP. I may be convinced to sell it if a guy were to offer me enough money for it. And yes, it does hurt to shoot more than 10 rounds at a time with it. I don’t think in a real defensive situation you’re going to notice that though.

My buddy has a Sig P238 that he pocket carries.
I like to kid him about it, but damn, if it don't shoot like a real gun!
If we were allowed to carry more than two guns here in SLO, I'd get one.

I'll put in a word for the Kahr PM9 (or CM9 or MK9) as well.

If you wear traditional jeans then the pockets may be a little too small for anything more than a 380. I wear cargo/BDU type pants every day and a PM9 in a DeSantis Superfly pocket holster fits quite nicely and is easy to draw. Im pretty sure it's just about the smallest semiauto 9mm available.....but it is still quite manageable to shoot. I have no problem running a box of 50 through it at the range and it doesn't leave my hand sore or fatigued afterward.

I agree with this guy that the LC9 is too large for pocket carry, (as is the Shield....and the XDS, unless you have pretty generous pockets....the G43 is slightly easier, but still requires a pretty decent sized pocket also).

....and that the SIG P290RS might be a possible option if you get along with them, (and you can find one). I have one on my permit, but I honestly never carry it. It's a little heavier than my PM9, and a little wider, but neither of those things really bother me at all......in fact, I put some SIG "Enhanced" G10 grip panels on mine, (which have a nice palm swell which makes the grip even a little wider still), and I honestly like the way it fits in my hand better than the Kahr. The reason I never carry it is that it's a hammer fired DAO......which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but all my other stuff is striker fired, and by comparison, the 290RS just feels a little too different to me to want to rotate it in and out of my carry routine, (also the shape of the trigger itself has a more noticeable curve to it than my other stuff....again, it's not a bad thing, I just like my stuff to feel more consistent from one to another, I don't want to carry something that feels noticeably foreign to my hand when I draw. I've thought about getting a flat faced trigger from Galloway and see if I like it more after that, but honestly, I'll probably end up selling it and replacing it with something else, as it really doesn't fill any role that isn't already taken care of by my Kahr).

If you are limited by the roster, then I would have to fully agree with NorCalGlock9 here. If roster exempt, look at the Bond Bullpup or the Sig 365.

It really depends on your definition of what a pocket pistol is, though. We are all a bit different there. My definition of a true pocket pistol is one that is in your pocket from the moment you roll out of bed in the morning, to when you go to sleep at night. Every single day. It is a gun that can be in your elastic waist band shorts, or your jeans, or your PJ pants, and never weighs them down. It is a gun that is with you so much, you literally need to clean it out every couple of weeks because it gets full of pocket lint. The only small gun I have ever owned that I would consider a true pocket pistol (by MY definition) is my KelTec P32. But then again, it has nowhere near the fire power of a 9mm, which to me are all too large and heavy. Regardless, best of luck in your search.
