Default Are these gun parts? Please help me identify

Hello,
I purchased a box of rifle parts a few years ago and these were in it. Look like a heat shields, but I have no idea what they go to, or if they are even gun parts. Figured somebody here could help identify.

Idea for a new product. Write a application for a smart phone where you can scan an item and then ask for identification through the phone. Hmmmm

Top one for sure looks like a cover, even a cut out for a gas tube. Interesting.... Bottom line, its illegal in CA . HA!

I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure the two pieces go together. As you pointed out, it looks like the top piece is made to contain a gas tube. I think something like a circular ring or spring slides into the raised ring to hold the parts together.

It was in a box with a bunch of HK parts

It looks like it is from a 1940-1950ish Russin/Soviet rifle. It could also be from some odd-ball rifle like a Hakim.
