Default Ever run froglube dry on AR15?

I'm sold on froglube and am looking for input from other froglube users. I tend to run froglube a little wet on my bcg, just enough to see the lube on it. Froglube recommends wiping it all off after heat application. Does anyone here run froglube dry?

I would advise against using that stuff. Many people report problems with running a lot of rounds through their rifle and the froglube basically cooks into a paste that’s difficult to remove. Even more reported is people who lube their guns with it and it basically degrading into glue over time if the rifle isn’t used.

There’s a lot more proven and less gimicky products you can use suck as regular old Hoppes, CLP, Ballistol, Motor Oil etc.

Frog Lube gummed up my one gun I tried it on. I followed the instructions to a T during the application process. It worked fine during the summer and fall, but I didn't think it was any better than other lubes. Then came winter.

During a 50 degree day, my gun was sluggish and wouldn't cycle. I had to physically push the bolt into battery. This happened for probably 10 or 20 shots before it began to cycle properly on its own. This happened during several different outings until I finally removed the Frog Lube and used my normal gun lube. The gun has been totally reliable ever since I removed the Frog Lube.

NO GUN LUBE should cause your gun to malfunction by gumming it up. PERIOD. End of story.

You are running coconut oil, food coloring and flavoring

Way overpriced

Goes solid and causes malfunctions in the cold. Melts off when hot- sun or a lot of shooting.

Google snake oil or is froglube coconut oil

Coconut oil? No, but I used it to cook once. I hate how it makes everything taste like coconut. On guns I still use CLP or grease.

I honestly wonder at the people who ignore “ift its not broken, dont fix it”

Clp is cheap, plentiful, and fine. Various other oils, no problem.

Why search for something to replace a non problematic product?

Is it the smell? Lots of aspects of firearms are unhealthy if precautions are not taken, lead in primers, ventilation at indoor ranges is needed, cleaning chemicals are something to be used in the garage or outside.

I used it for a while and I had to detail clean everything I used it on to get them running again. If you shoot and clean every week it might be ok, but if you leave it for a month it will go bad and turn to gum and seize up your firearm. I really wanted to believe but it will bite you in the *** in the end.

I think I have a lifetime supply of the Kirkland brand in my pantry. I mean lifetime for guns... if you are cooking with it, maybe a few months.

You guys that gum up your guns with it are doing it wrong. Don't store the guns. That's where the problems arise. Just never stop shooting.

Grease is just oil with stabilizers/additives and is 80% oil or less.

20% or more is not a lubricant.

I use it on a new rifle or new pistol to break them in.
Usually break in I run 200 rds to get the firearm nice and hot.

Then at home wipe off the froglube. Then I use good oil.

Never tried it dry.

If your gun is jamming because of froglube. You have way too much on your gun or your not wiping off the excess.
Excess will build up.

There was this one thing I used to cook that tasted great with the coconut flavor. Salmon patties fried in Coconut oil with green onions and lemon juice. I like them in regular oil too though. If you are cooking Thai with coconut milk, that's a good time to fry some chicken in the coconut oil to use some up. Just don't put it on guns.

Yeah. You can get olive oil spray too, canola works every time for cooking. BUT beware the FROG LUBE example. Canola can gum up too, if you spray pam on a knife or whatever I've used it on knives because I was lazy and wanted some oil on a blade prone to rust. Leave it in a drawer too long and FROG LUBE city next time you pull it out. Sticky stuff.

i used to use frog lube to lube my AR's and pistols. But like it's been said previously, if you leave it for storage it tends to gum up the action and attract gunk. Had a few issues with an AR i was shooting at BLM. After lubing with CLP ran like a champ. It's an older AR that i had too, that ate up everything.

I went back to my old regiment of cleaning with Hoppes and lately have been lubing with Geissele Go Juice. So far i'm liking the stuff have been using it for two years on all my firearms with no issues. Runs a little thin. Even their supposed grease in the white bottle runs a bit thin but stays in place. Thinner than 00 grease though. Still looking for a good 00 grease for slide rails. May try aeroshell once i run out of the Go juice.

I have been using Froglube for around 4 years without issue on a number of firearms.

I tend to run the BCG with a light coating of the liquid version of froglube and use the paste for cleaning and recoating. I do not tend to completely wipe off the liquid, but is not dripping. I think running the BCG dry is do-able, but why try? However, I would add that my BCGs are NIB and Nitride coated, so that may help too.

I have never had a jam or malfunction of any kind on any pistols or rifles. I also do not go out and shoot in cold weather either. It does seem that Froglube is kind of gummy when the rifle has not been used for months, but after the first 3 shots, it turns to liquid anyway.

I like the non-toxic smell and have never had these issues others describe. Not sure what is different, but I will continue to use it.

Avocado oil from your gourmet grocer has a 520° smoke point.
Coconut oil smokes @350° IIRC.
wonder which one would hold up better?
Maybe add some peppermint oil for the ladies?

Rice bran oil is pretty high too... works good for tempura. Either one of those for the GenII Frog Lube formula. Maybe do a nice subtle cinnamon allspice extract fragrance for the new formula. Pumpkin Spice Latte lube?

Realistically, the Frog Lube guy can't call the GENII stuff "FROG LUBE" because of threads like this.

I use Frog Lube on exterior surfaces and mags only, works great, and is non toxic. The slides, rails, moving parts, etc get CLP. Don't throw away the FL, it's still useful!

Summertime I slather the BCG. Wintertime I run it much drier.

Yeah, and you can make fake freezer chocolate from it with stevia, coconut oil, and some other creeyap... GF used to make it. Kind of tastes like dark chocolate if you are starving.

There’s a bunch of couch commando chefs on this thread. Now everyone knows the best grease/oil to cook with is good ol bacon grease!!..but I do like avocado oil. Quick salad mix using avocado oil; arugula, cherry tomatoes or cherubs tomatoes cut in half, lemon juice, salt and pepper and of course a drizzle of avocado oil. Mix in bowl and vola!! Quick side salad to go with a steak or tri-trip.
