I have a rossi that is worth what I paid for it, has never failed, and in SA is tighter than a new SW.
No skin off my nose if some pays 4 times more for a SW, more power to them.

And wouldn't be a Garand if they bought the name and started making rifles.
Which, imo, is Springfield's problem. Seriously, they market like crazy, and many new pistol owners think they are buying something akin to what their Grandpa carried onshore on Guadalcanal. Regardless of their pistols value, which I find..........lacking in ergos, safety, and quality, it is nearly a form of stolen valor that I find grinding. It IS just a name.........but not to the people who bought it, or to the uninformed who buy them.

I would amend my answer to include CZ. Didn't even think of them but they make EVERYTHING well. From CZ75 to Dan Wesson, to their bolt guns, they are truly an awesome company. I'd like to see their version of a new assault rifle designed from scratch. |

I love Sigs but they lack the revolver line
I'd vote for Sturm Ruger Pistols: Revolvers, Cowboy, Semi's Rifles: Lever, Bolts, Semi's, AR platforms Shotguns Not necessarily a big fan of Ruger, but they cover about anything your looking for |

Let's hear it for John Browning....the best gun designer of all time.
As for companies Beretta seems to offer a very large line of goods, and some of their smaller companies, like Sako and Tikka, make excellent rifles for sportsman. Smith and Wesson also has a wide breadth of guns, but its been through so many hands who can say it was or is still the Smith and Wesson of the 50's. One company I think is in decline is Remington. The ammo and guns I have bought from them seem to be riddled with minor or major issues. Ammo that won't fire, primers that don't pop, and guns that wont feed or shoot straight....

Agreed with FNH. They seem to be making a bit of everything.

I'm going to have to go with Ruger presently. Someone said they had never heard of a Ruger shotgun. maybe you haven't heard of the well respected red label (or gold label) over and under Ruger shotguns. Almost too many pistols and revolvers to mention, mini 14 mini 30, bolt action both for right hand and left and actions wide selection of styles and caliber's hunting rifles.Did I forget America's favorite the Ruger 10/22. maybe they are the Chevy of guns but you asked for the best all around firearms maker.
In the past it may have been Colt. In the future it may be F.N. and none of these 3 makers are even my favorite. |

FN.
Probably biased due to my military service, but FN seems to make an excellent product all around. The M240B is an amazing piece of hardware. Their M-16's are also pretty decent. Most of the ones I've handled seemed a bit better than Colt produced M-16's in terms of fit and finish. On the civilian side, I really like their line of semi auto handguns. They seem comprable to HK products (I actually like the trigger on the FN more than the HK USP). With the purchase of Winchester, they also have a decent line of bolt action rifles now. The new Ballista (Not Winchester based) is pretty nice looking as well.
