The RIAA and MPAA are clearly racketeering at this point. At what point can we throw some people in jail under RICO. These goons are racketeering under the watch of the US government and legal system. What a joke.
It just goes to show what a farce Internet security and privacy are in this country. They're literally non-existent. You'll have to take your business to a nation that is non-friendly with the US to have any sort of privacy.

I actually bought the Blu-Ray. That's rare for me because I tend to boycott Stallone movies.

Wow. Haters gonna hate. I thought the movie was predictable but entertaining. I didn't expect some major plot twist or a treatise on morality. I expected a lot of gunfire, action, and explosions. This is what I got.

You go ahead and keep thinking that is protecting you. The MPAA and RIAA have been contracting out to individuals, using home internet connections, to get lists of file sharers IP addresses.

You're not going to do that with torrents, that is a lot of packet headers to forge.

I think he's confusing the reason for encrypted wireless connections. It's not primarily for keeping people from using your bandwidth, it's primarily for keeping people from getting access to the data you transmit & receive.

That kind of encryption does not really work, it's really just enough to stop them from throttling your connection.

It masks what you're downloading too, you just have to make sure it is forced and you do not accept incoming legacy (unencrypted) connections.

Just an FYI: Encrypted BT doesn't stop throttling. I know this because we are throttling encrypted BT. As far as masking what you are downloading, that is also a misnomer.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the DMCA reporting process, here's the simplest explanation of how a person is tagged for copyright violation. 1. DMCA reporting agent uses a p2p client. We will use BT as an example. 2. DMCA reporting agent pulls arbitrary torrent files from a BT tracker. 3. DMCA reporting agent begins to download copyrighted materials with the respective torrent files. 4. DMCA reporting agent obtains IPs and timestamps for all the 'seeders' seen (people who have the complete material and are actively sharing it). 5. DMCA contacts owners (ISP) of said IPs and gives infomation including timestamps, IP+port, copyrighted material info. DMCA notices aren't going out for people who download copyrighted material. They are going out to people who 'share' copyrighted material. In the BT protocol, once you download the complete file, you become a 'seeder'. By becoming a seeder, you are 'sharing'. So in theory, by virtue of the being a seeder you had downloaded the work, but technically, you didn't get flagged for 'downloading'. But that's just semantics... For those questioning this, I am very familiar with the DMCA process because I have to handle identification of users on our network when we receive DMCA notices.

If you have any part of what you are downloading over bittorrent, you are sharing. This is the entire concept behind torrents. It does not matter if you are a seed or not when it comes to these blanket John Doe lawsuits.

Some of us like sharing our (bought and paid for) bandwidth with the neighbors. Some of us have lots of friends over from time to time and would prefer not to have to always give out passkeys. Some of us like the plausible deniability of having an open wireless network. Some of us just don't care. Welcome to America. It's my internet connection, I'll do with it what I want. Welcome to America. If you want to sue me, you have to prove I actually did it, not merely that my name was on an internet bill that had an IP address that you think was used to pirate a movie. Passing a law requiring all wireless networks to be secured is like that city in the northeast (forget which one) that's passing a "anyone who owns more than X guns has to have a safe with an alarm rigged to the police station and records with us as to what guns they own....". It's intrusive, unconstitutional, and wrong. |

I saw that movie in the theater. It was OK, but a lot of things were just stupid. Like that old fart stallone falling u love with maybe a 22 years old woman? U SНITTIN ME? Not worth watching 2nd time.
As for illegal downloads, well.... Walmart sells DVD's pretty cheap, maybe $10 or $20 for one that just came out. If you just want to see it once, netflix I guess? |

How can they prove its not your roommates. How can they prove someone did not hack your network. Its completely legal to download something you could of bought, cause you can make a back up.
Like someone missed a show last night they download it. That's legal cause it is no different then recording it in tvo. Now uploading the movie is illegal. You rarly see downloaders get in trouble, notices and letters go out but early make it to court. |

Redbox is free if you wait for the freebie codes to come out.
It's not worth downloading movies in this day and age - which is pretty much what the copyright holders want us to think. Turby |
