Default FFL that does AK pistol transfers?

Hello I was wondering if there was any FFL's that would transfer an AK pistol? It has an attached MAGLATCH onto it converting it to a fixed mag setup and requiring the user to remove the bolt and bolt carrier, and the use of a tool to finally be able to detach the magazine.

I am in the SoCal area

Are you talking about a private party transfer?

Since I can easily make a tool to insert into the completely assembled receiver and drop the mag, I would not consider an AK with a Maglatch to be a "fixed magazine" under CA law. In other words, I would bet that a knowledgeable FFL would not transfer it due to it possibly being an AW.

TOo bad...I thought the maglatch was better designed. I've never actually seen one, but didn't realize a tool can be used to remove the mag on a fully assembled AK platform.

Hopefully nobody gets pinched on that one.

The best solution I've found is to drill and tap a magazine and use a cap screw (on the inside of the receiver) to keep it in place. This isn't horrible if you use a mag like the old jperl 10/30 lever mag and modify it with a loading port on on the side opposite the lever. You do need to invert the rifle and load the mag while it is upside down but, it is simpler than disassembling the receiver to change mags. The problem with this method is that it is easy to duplicate for minimal cost so, a business won't profit as much as they could from some cool proprietary mag lock.

Hi there CSA. If you attend any of the Crossroads Shows in the future you're welcome to stop by and test your theory at our table. We'd be happy to show you what we've engineered on the internals to prevent someone from "picking" the release without the bolt being removed.

Baboon, gee thanks

Issue with these is none of our attorneys have given us the green light to do the transfer. So while I believe it complies with the law I need my attorney to be comfortable in defending me if the DOJ decided to try and make an example out of me.

This is why most dealers are doing featureless or disassembled and not any of the new magazine lock devices. It's not that we don't want to but the DOJ makes me pee my pants.

Sorry I didn't get back to this thread until today.

Without seeing the above post, I happened to meet maglatch last weekend at the Crossroads show in Ventura. He was displaying his new AR mag lock called F.N.G.R. which I thought was a very interesting and inovative design that can be quickly converted back to a regular mag release when and where it is legal to do so. He also loaned me a Maglatch AK to experiment with and see if I can figure out a way to defeat it. I've just been pretty busy so, I haven't even looked at it yet but, I hope to do so soon. He was also gracious enough to loan me a F.N.G.R. as well. It was my idea to borrow them and, I will return them to him after I better evaluate them. I promised him that I would post my honest opinion after I get a chance to play with them. I also made it clear that I wasn't looking for free product and, even if he would have offered, I didn't wasn't going to take something for free since, that might appear to some that I was being somehow influenced to post a positive review. Anyway, stay tuned to this thread. I hope to post a more educated opinion of both locks soon.
