Default serious value in that gun

A little rough but they are lightweight, accurate and affordable.

I'm really after something that will favor the 20" barrel, since most commercial loadings for .357 intended for revolvers are all done at 16" (according to BBtI), so I guess I'm after a slightly slower powder.
You have some good powders to work with. As I'm running low on XTP's, I 'll go to Philipp's on Thursday and look at some Missouri 158 RNFP coated. Or something.

I'm with you on that, and should Thursday roll around with a light schedule at work, I might just meet you there.

I won't know until about 48 hours beforehand, what with our fluid work schedule.

I just hung up the phone with golfish, and the three of us are gonna go shootin' soon, and hopefully during the week. My attendance depends again on my work sched, and again, I won't know until about 48 hrs beforehand. Looking forward to it! Also going to work on a good target stand; one where we can hang cardboard with attached paper targets as well as suspending tin cans from it. Hell, why not add balloons, too.

I have a few Marlins. Recently I loaded some 44 spl cases with a 240 swc and they fed fine in my 44 mag/spl. I loaded some in 44 mag, same bullet and a hotter load. Not max load but these are the hi tech coated bullets and should take the higher velocity. Going to shoot them Thanksgiving weekend along with some 45- 70s. The swc sre feeding fine in my Marlins.

I hate you if I were to buy a Winchester 92 it would be the short rifle. I think the short rifle is so much more nicer than the carbine. I have a Rossi short rifle (20") with a Oct barrel, is yours an Oct barrel? It's a heavey so.

Ha! Thanks. We can reschedule. Shooting, probably after Thanksgiving? We'll get something worked out. It's good to be back. Have a new to me load I'd like to shoot in my 30-30 also. Lever goodness!

I'm hoping to have a new to me JM 336 soon. Very interested in seeing your and apples reloads, I assume you both reload 357?
The whole reloading thing is very interesting to me. I haven't done any reloading since I was a kid, and that was all 20ga trap loads at my uncle's shop.
I have a case of 357 on a truck somewhere back east heading my way.

OP, sorry to get off topic.

Great find! And good on you, for jumping on it. We need a Calguns lever shoot. OC Indoor, Burro Canyon, Mohave? I just finished a big 125 and 158 grain loading series . Glad to pitch in what little reload knowledge I have on target loads. Saturday morning coffee BS meet at some Starbucks?

Nice score!

I've had this Rossi 92 since I was at Ft. Carson in 81. It has had a lot of rounds through it over the decades. I added the oversized loop a couple years ago.

That mag tube must stick 15" out from then end of the barrel with 20 rounds

What's the price on them, or is this one a keeper?

I don't recognize the name, which makes me think it's wayyyyy too far away.

I have not, as far as range reports, but I'd be happy to buy one and write one! I'm FINALLY within a few days of slowing down for a month or two, and having time to shoot!

So think Remington right after they bought Marlin

I think another member just drosed one, maybe we'll get a report from him in a couple weeks.

I had 1 rossi carbine but it was too light for me. I'd like to get one with an octagon barrel. I have Marlins in 44mag, 44- 40 and 45- 70. I recently loaded some 44 spl 240 gr swc for a Ruger flat top. Tried them in the Marlin and they cycled fine. Now I've loaded some in magnum cases hotter loads and am curious to see how the coated bullets do at highrr velocity.

In '06 when Winchester ceased making the 94 I went out and bought a new Rossi 20" blue in .357. I found it to be a very well made firearm and it shot well. The only drawback is I believe they are metric so some parts don't interchange with regular Winchesters. Kept it for a few years then traded it in for a used but mint condition 94 in .30-30.

I've read that Rossi will make all their models of the R92 but they've been real slow about getting past the first production guns of the Rossi-re-do of 2018. I did see a couple 24" models on GB last night. I have a couple octagon Rossis, a 24" SS in 357 and a 20" case hardened 357 short rifle. The short rifle seems to be the hardest one to get.

I'm looking at getting started at reloading. I'm lucky to have a couple new friends pushing me in the right direction.

Man, if I found a case hardened 357 for a reasonable price I'd be breaking in to my emergency fund in my safe with a quickness!

That 20" case hardened short rifle has always been the hardest one to find. They just never make enough of em. Seems to me that if a gun sales as good as that one does, you'd produce more of them. The one I have was the best of the bunch, it did give me a little problem. That's when I got my first hands on experience take the 92 action apart. Oh boy! What fun that is

I did see a used 24" on GB the other day.

FWIW, I paid $512.00 at Buds + all other charges.

These nifty lil' R92s are the best value per dollar of any firearm in history.

I think.

And I love my Marlins! ...at least the ones made 20 years ago.

Even better, the new guns don't have the hammer safety (set screw on the back of the hammer) so Rossi says the new guns are supposed to sale for less.
I hope that once they get their **** together and start making more models the prices will come down to where they're supposed to be.

I was at Dom's Sporting Goods in Livermore today. They had a blued Rossi lever action in 357 mag on the shelf. It had the octagonal barrel.

Do you recall the barrel length? These might be a good investment for now, especially if they're the 20" flavor. The 24" guns were made in blue, stainless steel and case hardened.
The 20" only came case hardened.

The larger the caliber the lighter the gun. Rossi used the same barrel blanks for each gun.

I bought this R92 from the OP last week.
He needed $, so I helped him out.
Jail break is on Wednesday.
I'm looking forward to pushing 200 rounds down range to break it in.
I've started using the MBC coated pills in my Marlin 1894C 24" in 45Colt.
It sure likes them, so I think I'll continue so as not to need to burn up all that lube on the regular MBC lead.

I just picked one up at triple As in Vallejo, .357 stainless steel 20in, they have a few if anyone’s interested. I got hit with the lever action bug when I got my marlin 1894 CSBL .357... so much fun!

I didn't know these 92's had gotten so hard to find... I bought one from Bud's in 2015. I really like it. (Rossi Lever Action M92 357Mag 20" 10+1) I think it was under $500.

I put a red dot on it for fun and enjoyed it so much I left it on there...
