Default Clearing and Leaving: Oddly Satisfying

Wife and I left for WA early last year but we left some of our stuff, junk and a car behind in our CA property. We returned a couple of week ago to clear it out in preparation to rent the place out.

I must say, the process of clearing out the place by dumping almost everything, is oddly satisfying. Not sure why I would feel this way, but seeing all those junk accumulated over 17 years thrown out gives me a sense of relieve and closure.

The process of selling the car was quick and easy, I was surprised at how much they were willing to pay for a 19 year old car.

One thing I did learn that might be useful for those of you thinking of throwing everything out and running for it, is that you can hire these “estate clean out” companies who will dismantle your furnitures and other stuff and haul them away for you, for a fee of course but it was well worth it. That meant I don’t have to deal with beds, tables and other furnitures I want to throw out.

And this is it, the few items that we wanted to keep are packed into a small 10-ft u-haul truck, we’re staying 1 more night at a local hotel to rest up before hitting to road north to WA tomorrow morning. I’ll see you guys when I”m back home in WA, and yeah, home in Washington State. Awesome.

Off the I-5 on the west side, a little north of Cottage Grove. Well worth the stop.

It's not quite like that... Washington has one liberal flustercuck called Olympia (Seattle) but the rest of the state doesn't really play along, especially if you are on the east side of the Cascades or anywhere rural really.

It's nowhere near as bad as CA, not even close.

Problem is the head of the snake is in Olympia/Seattle and they will set the rules for the rest of the state.
Take a look at NV - Vegas is the policy/law setter for the whole state. It's where the concentration of left wing population has the clout to control the whole state.

Thanks.

Understand this though, the what I call “level of blueness” in WA and I think OR too, is different from that of CA. While politics in both WA and OR leans heavily blue by the high population concentration in major cities such as Seattle and Olympia (for WA) and Portland (for OR), the rest of the State is more moderate.

Take for example, I personally saw this Asian gal wearing a NRA hat at the Ranch 99 in Kent and nobody bats an eyelid. For myself, I sometimes wear my trapshooting hat that has a gun icon on it when doing my yard work in summer and none of my neighbors are bothered by it when they come over and chat with me.

So if you like a particular location, don’t let the State level politics stop you from moving there. Check out the locals, you might find that they are more moderate than you expected.

If you’re on the east side of the Cascades you might as will be in the inland empire with worse weather. Spokane is Riverside/San Berdoo with trees and perhaps even more metheads.

We just had all but one of the sheriffs up here in Washington make a unified statement saying they will NOT enforce any unconstitutional anti-gun laws passed by the WA state legislature.
The 1 holdout was the appointed sheriff of King County (Seattle)

I'm sure everyone here has some junk that they procrastinate on getting rid of.

If any pro-2A voters want to join us, move on up. No state income tax, no magazine restrictions, AOWs, SBRs, silencers and most DD’s allowed with federal stamp, no assault weapon laws, no roster, state preemption, shall issue, and no waiting period for receivers/frames, shotguns of any kind, and manually operated rifles. Handgun waiting period varies based on local jurisdiction, mine vary from two days to nine days. We have beaten the gun control bills for five years in a row.

Less crowding, and it isn’t hot all the time. I actually prefer the seasons and enjoy the light rain during the winter.

In 2020, Cottage Grove voted Trump over Biden - by about 25 votes! R over D was a little bit larger in 2016.

But because of Eugene and U of Oregon, Lane County voted D in the last 2 presidential elections.

I know a couple strongly partisan Rs, but I'm not aware that I know any strongly partisan Ds. Don't know anyone in Eugene, either.

It is not common, but I have seen open carry in town several times (it's legal most places) without any reaction, except me goggling a bit, since that's really rare for non-LEO in CA cities and I'm not used to it.

I stopped off in a small Oregon town on I-5 a few decades ago and seem to remember that factoid.

Things might get bumpy in here, but the big scare is tsunami - and the valley is about 50 miles inland, behind the Coast Range which is usually 1000'+.
