Default Why do glocks have a notch on the slide where the back plate goes?

Somewhat new to Glocks, but I thought something was wrong with mine. There's an indentation/notch on the upper-right hand corner where the back plate meets the slide. Since you use your thumb to slide off the back plate, I dont think it's to assist in disassembly.

What is it for?

It's so you can take the gun apart. Edit: Trigger bar goes through there when you remove the slide. Otherwise you'd have to pull off your back plate to take out your barrel.

I think he means the tiny notch in the upper right corner.

Answer: Because Glock put it there. All Glocks have it in case you need to pry.

Other answer: I really don't know. I'm just making up what I think is the best answer.

I thought about that the other day when I was assembling a new slide...curious as well.

Also, looks like your glock is riding kinda low on that appendix carry...

The upper notch is for the extractor plunger & spring clearance during removal & installation

Ahaha I just got that lol. It's a pic I got from a gun blog. I've got a corgi mix that sheds everywhere and it gets into everything though, so mine probably would look like that.

It is part of the extractor spring hole.

It's not just a glock thing by the way, my shield also has that same notch, as does the Springfield XD

Yup! My Husky is shedding like crazy too. Spring is here and the winter coat is coming off. WTF?! I just vacuumed this morning and there’s fur all over the floor again. She’s inside the house, the heater is always on and my PG&E bill hurts like a mother#^@*{£!

There are a lot of tasteful aftermarket back plates out there that make nice upgrades:

Grim Reaper
Punisher
Murka
Gitsum

That notch is there to make you think that's where you stick the screwdriver to pry off the back plate so that you mangle the plate to hell and scratch up the slide before you look on YouTube and learn how to remove it correctly.

it's designed so the Glock can fire underwater, the small cutout lets excess water drain from the slide so the extractor / firing pin can move freely

this is one reason SEALs / Spec ops chose the Glock pistol

so the gun continues to work even under the most hostile environment conditions often encountered by the Spec Ops / Delta operator community.

Here's one I used on my most recent Glock build. It's from Lead Tactical.

Who cares! Great guns. BTW: does the fancy and scary back plates mark the shooter as aggressor after a shooting in SD?
