Cool, I'll have to do an inventory to see if I need one or two. Is there still a sale on them for $20?

Yup you can preorder them and they are shipping out on the 11th. I don't even have a need for them but I probably going to order 4 or 5 to have.

When you are checking out type "G2" must be capital G to work.

I 100% DISAGREE. I use decent bits and drilling them out does not ruin the bit at all. I have found it to be a big PITA to pound them out. ?
hope you can still make it!

ahh what works for some might not work for others. I also used high quality bits but I found it easier to just pound the rivets out and this is 3 romy g kits, romy md90 and one bulgy 74.

Like Nino, I found pounding them out is quicker and easier- on most trunions anyway. The trick is the set up. A 3lb sledge, and a 1x3x6" piece of plate steel with a slightly oversize hole for the pin on a concrete slab. I hit them straight on to get them moving, then a short punch, then a long punch- kinda like the barrel pin tool. Drilling is such a pain- broken bits in the trunion and egged holes if you are not careful. I did a couple at Alex's party, and they went well.

Here is some info I got from another member.. It can be wrong but it makes sense to me,

"As for advantages to double hook I have been told that the double hook offers a lock up that keeps the hammer from having any lateral pressure on it minimizing the worry of egging out axis pin holes. There are others that insist that the single hook is better as there is less friction on the trigger pull only having lock up on the hammer on one side. They also insist that the single hook is better since it doesn't require 2 hooks to meet on the back of the hammer exactly at the same height. There is a little play in the hammer per my experience so this is really a non-issue in my book as the hammer will move a bit if need be to take up any slack if there is any. To me a double hook made more sense on my builds. It does provide a more solid lock up between hammer, and trigger hooks, it does keep the hammer from having any lateral force on it when cocked. They break clean, and have a light enough trigger pull for me not to think that it needed fixing."

People report that a double hook is a cleaner trigger than a single hook. It's all about what you want.

Lol I know huh?

Either way, single or double hook it's up to the user. There are millions of AKs made with single hooks and a ton made with double hooks too and they all run fine.

I am going to put a double hook in my 74 krink so I can see the difference although I will be comparing it to my 47s.

Question:
How imperative is it that the bolt carrier rails come from a set of "matching numbers" kit?

i.e. if I find that I can get enough money to buy a kit before the BP, can I buy some generic rails and spot weld those on? From what I can tell, those two pieces are almost as universal as the flat itself that I'll be building from.

The reason I ask is because I don't often have access to a spot welder and it seems like the only two functions that I absolutely have to do at the BP are the bending and welding of the receiver. I have tools enough at home for all other aspects of the build.

Sorry, if I keep asking kind of rookie questions, my work situation and budget are conflicting with my nee... er, WANT for an AK.

The rails come with the flat, not the kit. You could certainly bend the flat and weld in the rails, maybe borrowing a front trunion for a minute just to line them up.

You are talking about the lower rails that you spot weld onto the receiver correct? Those come with the flat not the parts kit so you are GTG. The only problem with that is if you spot weld your rails in before riveting your trigger guard.... well you might have a tight squeeze getting the jig in there.

EDIT:: damn oldyeller beat me to it!

Oh, no way! Cool. That makes things a little easier. I'll play it by ear when I get there. Hopefully I'll have a kit though.

Thanks guys.

Anybody looking for a 74 kit?

For sale is an excellent/like new condition, all matching numbers Bulgarian AK-74 kit. The original barrel is in like new condition, and the furniture looks great, with just the slightest bit of handling wear. I'd rate the metal finish at nearly 100%..you won't need to refinish any part of this kit if you don't want to. Judging from the bolt face, I would guess the rifle these parts came from was unfired. The muzzle brake is a standard "mid-production" Bulgarian variant. This kit is one of those with the small weld on the brake, though it can be removed with very little effort. These parts should make for a fantastic build. This is one of the overall nicest kits I've seen.

I'm asking $355, plus shipping. Please PM with my any questions! I accept discreet Paypal, +4%, or money orders.

Thanks!

Actually, that's a decent deal...

http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.htm...f=123&t=776102

"I've spent too much and have to let this one go. Looks to be unfired, almost all matching numbers kit Bulgarian 74 kit, Trunnion, bolt, carrier and top cover all match. The only thing not matching is the selector lever. The bore looks brand new and probably is.

What you see pictured is what you get. Upper and lower handguard look awesome but the stock was abused, looks as if someone beat on it during the demill for some freak reason. The "bubble gum" pistol grip is pretty torn up as well, I have another I'll replace it with if you like. Small tack weld on the FSB and brake should clean up nicely.

Kit has the much desired dimpled mag catch! Sorry I forgot to take a picture of it. "

I was gonna buy the first kit but it's mismatched front end doesn't match the bolt and bolt carrier so eh... I'll pass but it is still a good deal.. You might get lucky with headspacing since a lot of the parts are matching from what it seems like.

I just keep on finding good deals LOL, I still have to buy a 74 barrel less kit for a project I am going to do

That tantal kit is looking nice!! but I'm good with the ak builds for right now

Nino, the only problem with the pistol kit that you posted is........ the barrel isn't threaded so you are stuck with a non threaded barrel since there isn't any of it sticking out from the fsb/gb
