Default Ankle Holster Options/Recommendations

First off, I know a lot of people aren't fans of ankle holsters for primary, EDC and they have lots of good points about having to kneel, slower access, inability to run, etc. I'll appendix carry my Shield when I'm able. For me though, it doesn't have all the difficulties I hit when crawling under vehicles at work and I figure any gun is better than no gun so that's where ankle carry comes in. I'm asking more general questions assuming the decision is already made about ankle carry.

First off, I wear cowboy style steel toes to work every day with jeans over the top. There's no situation where my pants leg ever rides up higher than the top of my boot. I'm also skinny dude (6'4" and 150 lbs) and have lots of room in the boot to fit a gun along with my leg.

I see lots of Galco or Bug Bite recommendations for holsters. What's the reasoning behind most of those holsters having a retaining strap over the top? I rarely see that on belt carry (besides lots of LEO holsters) but it seems it's the norm for ankle. Maybe because there's more movement at the end of the leg? Just wondering since it does seem like it would slow down access.
Examples: and and

Also, has anyone used this style holster where it clips to the boot? Seems like the gun would rub on your leg as you walk instead of being attached to the leg and rubbing on the boot/pants but figured I'd ask:

And then I'm just open to any recommendations from your personal experiences on
-holster styles/brands
-methods, including location on leg and ride height compared to the top of the boot. Right now assuming inside left leg for right hand draw which is what I've been practicing
-Experiences with sweat and rust. I keep seeing that be a factor but more so than IWB?
-Preferred ankle guns. I really like the Ruger LCR but would buy something else if it's easier/better function. Single stack auto could be narrower so might fit better.
