Default DOJ Runaround (registration)

Asking for a friend. He attempted to register his AR15 with the DOJ. Recently the DOJ contacted him saying they needed something more to complete the registration. When he tried to get back into the system to find out what the problem was his account has expired and he was locked out. Repeated attempts to communicate with the DOJ have been less than successful. The attempts to recover his account as directed by emails from the DOJ do not work. Phone calls are impossible. The phone just keeps on with a busy signal. He just got an email from the DOJ instructing him to send them his email address, driver's license information, a phone number, etc. if he needs help with his application. Not sure where that will go. He's almost at the point of just relinquishing the gun to the police to make this go away. My question is can he still convert the gun to a fixed magazine or featureless at this pint to retain the weapon, or is it too late for that?

It was never successfully registered so there isn't a requirement to declassify it.

Convert it to compliant and be done with it. If it really bothers him, sell the firearm after.

There is a link right below the login area, where you get an email link sent to the email you provided DOJ, and enter a new password.

It's a bigger headache to register it with all the time he's wasted trying to contact the DOJ.

Might as well go featureless and if he doesn't like that route, sell it after he converts it over

Yes. He tried that route, but it did not work. That's why he is so frustrated.

Find the number for the Assault Weapons division in their phone tree or whatever that group is called, and follow the prompts that way to get to a live person.

I had a similar experience to what you described since your login credentials expire, and the password reset stuff doesn't work automatically. Called the CFARs/CRIS number based in advice from someone. Got a live person in two minutes, and resolved all the account stuff in under five.
