Make sure to keep it clean out there.

Also, if anyone goes out there and sees any areas that need a clean up, or if you did any cleaning yourself, please let me know so I can keep track. This helps us to keep these areas open b showing we have a growing number of responsible shooters that are cleaning up out there.

I went out to Pink Gate today...very light crowd, but sadly, some folks are already leaving crap behind.

I met some really awesome people and they helped clean stuff up. A lot of folks did not know about the behind the scenes showdown between the city council and BLM. I told them about it and how a lot of people did a lot of work to help keep the place open for shooting and that they were enjoying it...something that might not be happening if efforts weren't being made.

Even one group that was going to abandon it's steel casings worked to clean it up after that.

Just some things to think about while out on BLM land.

I was out there again and met the new ranger. Seems like an awesome guy. He's not out here to bust people's hump on things not related to the land. He just wants folks to clean up after themselves, not shoot steel core, or be stupid.

At least at Pink Gate, there are new signs that list all of the rules for shooting there posted on the big board that's there.

If you miss them, it's because you CHOSE to miss them. They're right there at the gate.

Hmmmmm...indeed.

Actually, joking aside, I think he was being straight with me about it. He stated that his job was only "...to ensure the longevity of the place for now and future generations. Don't leave your trash, don't shoot steel core, etc. If you packed it in, pack it out."

I specifically did not ask him about firearm enforcement, but when he talked to me, and when he was talking to the other group out there, he wasn't checking guns, he wasn't peaking into people's crap or asking questions about it. In fact everybody got into a discussion of Glock vs Sig vs 1911. He was actually personable.

His name is Ranger Purdy. He said the other guy, Ranger Rice was still around.

Maybe calguns should start an "adopt a range" program in partnership with the agencies that administer the land. They might even let us put signs up...

Most folks try to be and when I'm out there for brass, I try to be a reminder of it. The douche that started that 2000 acre fire was breaking the law. He was shooting steel against steel, saw the wisp of smoke, and like everyone else ran away instead of running up and kicking some dirt on it.

I don't have a house in the area, but I do have one and it's stupid people that bother me. They're the ones that cost us the ability to do fun stuff.

The problem is that there ARE signs up. Plenty of them. What needs to happen is somehow getting a level of enforcement of the rules. I'm out there ROUTINELY, as are several folks I know that do clean ups, and we constantly come up on people who are doing the wrong thing. Things that are expressly forbidden.

Things like shooting steel core ammo against steel targets (ricochets are a constant danger from those ones), leaving trash, litter, etc.

Until there's enforcement, no agreement will mean anything. Stupid, inconsiderate and willfully ignorant people need to lose money before they'll listen. Until it happens, organizations like SDMust, SDCGO and others are going to be the only voices loud enough to keep them open.

I mean...we can't count on the City and Town Councils to support us, right?

I was there just this past weekend and it was a green forest with weeds. Seriously, some of that crap was 5 feet high at PG. The fire danger sign on the way out there read "1 LOW", so...well it's a bummer.

That said...all that high grass is absolutely going to be a fire danger later.

But like others said...wow. That was indeed quick.

Can't help but wonder if this isn't the result of the recent conflict between the county supervisors and the Secretary of the Interior......

There is a conflict between Cal Fire and BLM. Cal Fire decides if the soil moisture or growth is acceptable or not.

There is no conflict in AZ or NV, yet.

The BLM map shows a fire restriction in SD County as well as Imperial County, am I reading it right?

^^Yes, you're reading it correctly-there are stage III fire restrictions in SD and IMP counties. Are they the same as recreational/target shooting restrictions? No they're not.

As mentioned above all of SD county BLM is closed to target shooting. All of IMP county BLM is open to target shooting.

Imperial county is currently open for shooting.just remember to pack out more than you bring in.
And don’t shot clays or bottles out there . It’s impossible to pick them all up I the dry deserts.

Clays don't break down out there with 2 inches of rain per year. Use paper targets or steel.

I spoke with some people over at Palm Springs BLM.
They recommended Berdoo or Fargo Canyon since just about everywhere else is apparently ready to burst into flames, despite plenty of areas being unusually green for this time of year.
Berdoo and Fargo are not very pretty areas, and its a heck of a drive...
