Default Camp Perry 1000 Yd Matches in the Old Days

When I was a kid I used to read about the Camp Perry matches with most of the shooters using 03 Springfields and I was amazed at their abilities. Flash forward 60 years and I am still amazed that these guys could punch the black at 1000 yards with no optics and using military grade rifles and ammo. I was browsing today and came across this article about "Pop" Farrs and his 71 consecutive bullsyes in the 1920's. Makes for a good read and reminds us about the kind of stuff our fathers were made of.

Camp perry matches always had a big allure to me as a child, must of been all those articles I read in shotgun news and the other decent gun magazines of the day. There is just something magical about seeing our nations historical rifles stretching their legs at those distances

I competed there in 1983 using a loaner M14 from the Department of Civilian Marksmanship.
