Default CA Legal 1911 pistols

I was just wondering if there is simply a list of CA legal 1911 .45's for sale? I'm looking to buy a 1911 for $400-$600. I'm also curious about quality. Like what would be the difference between a Rock Island 1911, Springfield 1911, and a Kimber? I'd like to have a blue, nickel, or stainless model (but that automatically means more cash too right?) Any recomendations of a mid-priced CA approved 1911 style pistol would be appreciated too. (And are all GI models parkerized? My 12ga. is parked and I HATE it)

RIA will fit that budget. Solid gun for the price tag as well.

$400-$600 is not mid priced, that's low priced, and the only one that low is RIA.

if 600 is your cap, the ria would fit the bill nicely and should keep you happy... til you feel the need to get more.

most ria tacticals go for 550, i wouldn't pay more than that at a local gun store. it's a big improvement over the gi, more comfortable to shoot and easier to see sights.

I see that springfield has a line of 1911 GI style pistols in the $550-600 range. Would that be a better buy than the RIA? I like to buy US when I can. Anyone know about the quality of a springfield compared to a RIA? I found a stainless version for $600, might be able to get it out the door for $700. And if I went with a springfield could I upgrade it when I get the extra cash (ditch and replace the trigger and hammer, add a beaver tail, upgrade the sights, throw on an ambi-safety, and more if I wanted to?) I heard 1911's are easy to get parts for and upgrade. I also hear that these pistols are reliable, I'm looking for something for self defense, and don't want to worry about it not going bang when the trigger is pulled.

Springfield Armory isn't US anymore. But I love my SA 1911. Bought it used from another Calgunner and it is fun, accurate, and hasn't stopped yet. Don't know how it fits into the 1911 hierarchy but it is all I can afford for now and it works perfectly for me right now.

Sarco has a bull barrel for the RIA that will tighten up groups.

I wouldn't trust anything Sarco makes to improve my gun's performance.

It never was. The 1911 frames and slides were always made in Brazil. Still, it's top quality stuff.

The RIA's are good too. They are made in the Philippines, which has a long history of 1911's, has been a good ally and used to be a part of the United States.

Don't confuse the former US government Springfield armory with the private company Springfield Armory. They are not connected in any way.

Did not realize that. I always thought that the government just let them go out and be a private company.

In your price range I don't think you're going to find something truly 100% made in the usa.

I've seen some used Kimber Custom II's in the mid/high 600 range if you can stretch your budget a bit. Otherwise, RIA.

Just see if the model is on the Roster.

Also, you probably would have been better off making a new thread vs. bumping a 4 year old one..
