LED tvs, Recommendations?

I'm in the market for a 60 inch or greater, however i am not sure if

The lighting in your room natural and artificial will determine what Monitor/TV you should buy.

-Is there a big window?
-Does sun light shine on the area where you want to place the screen?
-Do you have recessed lights pointing at the area where you want to place the screen?
-How far away would the front of the screen be from your eyes when you're watching TV (from location of said panel)
-Do you do most of your watching at night or during the day?

Just some of the the top of my Vodka filled head, but you get the point.
These questions will help answer, if you want a Plasma-LED etc and the size.

Also should take into consideration is do you really need a Smart TV? Do you need just a Monitor?

I know some will flame but Sharp IMHO is a great "Monitor" but sucks as a Smart TV.

LCD/LED are almost the same. The lighting of the liquid crystals is done either by LED lights around the edge of the display or sometimes as a complete full panel of LED's or by florescent bulb on the sides.

And plasma works as a gas and is a whole other animal.

With a Plasma you will get the richest black level resulting in the best picture. But plasma is a waste if you are not a movie buff. Just my opinion again.

3 big windows on wall adjacent to where the tv will be. Wall mounted , Northern Wall.

Mainly movies and sports. It's the living room.

I don't like some of the new TVs as they are too sharp and too bright.

Example/ in the movie HEAT Al Pacino and Bobby D sit down in a diner. In the movie you only see them. On some TVs you get to see every extra clearly in the background.

Pick out a favorite DVD or two and pick 1 or 2 scenes.

Play these scenes at the store. Use the same scene to compare how the TV looks to you.

And no one ever said- I wish I got a smaller TV

I picked up a 60" LED Vizio smart tv "open box" at BestBuy -

Under $800 OTD including a 5yr warranty.

Then picked up a 42" LED LG smart tv "open box" for the gazebo outside -

For under $600 OTD including a 5yr warranty.

Damn things have an amazing picture -

I waited waaaaaay too long to upgrade.

Lots of great deals since people were buying and returning/exchanging for the start of NFL season......

High light areas are good for LED -

We can watch our LED outside in the middle of the day just fine....

My vote would be a Samsung Smart TV I have had 2 and no problems, and they look amazing.

LG 3d led 60" is what I have. Don't get fooled by the picture in the store, they are too bright and ugly.

Go to CNET. Com search for whatever TV you buy for calibration settings. I have many people come over to my house and are amazed at the picture quality. Calibration is key no matter what TV you buy.

Plasma TVs are where its at...

Even in todays market I would still be shopping for a plasma. I just prefer the picture quality for watching movies.

I also agree with calibration, very important.

If you want a TV for stagnant images or to use as a PC monitor you are probably better off with an LCD/LED set.

They have a MASSIVE TV in Riverside Magnum Range. I SWEAR that it looks JUST like a Novella. Poor studio lighting and all. I mean, It reminded me of when I played Quake 2 WITHOUT my Monster 3D 12MEG addon OpenGL card. ALL of the lighting is like, WHITE, They had Ghostbusters playing on it and I was getting SICK by the light. SO, I say if you do get one, FOR SURE have it checked or calibrated because if Riverside Magnum Range (which is an awesome range BTW ) did not adjust theirs, then that was the issue. It just had NO colored lighting, like ALL light sources were WHITE.

If don't have a big window in the background with light that reflect light them I would buy a plasma tv because the black levels, color reproduction, and no lag with imaging.

However if you have rooms with a lot of glass them get a Led tv! No Visio TV's please because their IR receiver for the remote on the tv stops working! If you are going to have a HTPC with Ceton cablecard for cable services, them a dumb "Smart TV" is waste of money unless you Netflix.

I love my plasma tv for F1 racing, NFL, NBA, Playoff Baseball, CBS and NBC Network.

I bought my plasma 4 years ago about this time. The price didn't come down until late spring the next year from what I paid. Xmas sales are 10 in the store at a great price and you wait in line for a couple of days to get one. In stock about regular price. No thanks.

I have mine on a north wall and windows to south and west, only when the light beams directly in from the setting sun do I have issures. Then I pull the shade; fixed.

At the time I bought, everybody was dissing Plasma, so it was $300 cheaper than an LCD of same size and quality. I did some research and the consensus of the TV guys was go with plasma. Glad I did. It's a 50" Panny.

Parents and I did the same thing. They have the Panasonic 55", I have the 50". Plasma all the way!

60" Panasonic plasma. The color looks more rich to me and viewing quality is still great if you watch from an angle. (I have a wide living room with a couch and recliner at each end).

My 5 year old Panasonic plasma has been great. My only complaint is that it puts out lots of heat, and warms up my TV room after about 2 hours

You can't go wrong with a Samsung. Also, I believe the best time of year to get the best deal on any TV is around March or April when old model TV's are being pushed out to make room for incoming newer models.

If you can find it and afford it, Pioneer plasma. But for LED/LCD, I'd probably suggest Samsung or whatever you can afford that can either do 720p or 1080p. When you have the TV at home, you won't notice how it compares to how other TV's are.

I have a Panasonic plasma for my main TV Downstairs and picked up a new LED foe the bedroom. The LED is nice but the plasma is still more vivid and fluid.

just bought a new samsung smart tv and I absolutely love it, you can web browse directly on the tv plus youtube/pandora/lots of other apps

Samsung has had some excellent bang for your buck the past few years. I bought a 55" HD Samsung last year. It's been great. Superb quality. No extra bells and whistles on mine, I don't need the extra features since I use a XBox360 to stream everything.

S60 or Vt60 are extremely nice. I just pull the curtains and that fixes the light issue.

Then again, the 63inch f8500 looks great

Going to see if there's a deal before the superbowl but rumor has it that Samsung will release a more affordable version of the f8500 before June.

Price should go down either way.

I finally am going to be in the market for a new tv, I have had my viewsonic plasma now for 14 years, the picture still great, but some avi inputs are not working and sometimes it takes a few minutes of turning on/off to power up in the last few months. The picture still better then any lcd i have ever seen. But plasma's use a great deal of energy. LED has better contrast then lcd and will use less energy.
