Default Impulse buy (update w/pics)

Went to turners yesterday for some fishing line, decided to browse the gun counter real quick. Saw a red tag the read "Pre Owned". I'm a sucker for a used gun at a good price.

Looked it over, and made my first impulse buy. A S&W 13-4 with a 3" barrel, original wood grips and the condition was excellent not a scratch and a $400 price tag.

It's not recessed nor pinned, but the words prelock/357/S&W/3inch roped me in.

After browsing internet prices looked like I did well. Can't wait to get her out of jail.

Update

After a longer wait than expected (consignment) I finally was able to pick up my new toy. Here are some pictures for you addicts. Also a Family portrait : 19-3 6" and a 10-7 4".

Are you kidding me? A 3" Model 13 in a Turners for $400? That has to be the deal of the weekend. That's probably one of the most sought after S&W's around. You could easily double your money. Too bad I didn't see it first.

Congrats.

Wow, had no idea it could be worth double. Thanks. It felt good. Might have to put target grips on it though.

I will, tried to take a picture before I left the store but was told "no pictures!". Guess they didn't see me take like 3 other pics in the store.

Thanks. I've been looking for a 2-1/2"-4" S&W, really wanted a model 19-1 to19-3 to match my 6" 19-3. But this should do.

Was that a consignment gun? That could explain the unexpected lower price at a "Turners". Someone wanting to sell it quickly without doing any "homework".

Look forward to the pics.

I second this. I'd have paid $700+ for that gun.

I'm not familiar with the revolver; what's special about it?

Really as far as revolvers go, nothing. It only carries 6 rounds, has fixed sights, can fire .38's or .357; doesn't sound too special huh? Basically it is a Model 10 that handles magnums.

But if you want a carry gun that is a revolver, has the perfect balance between a short barrel for concealment that is just long enough to get benefit from the magnum load, has no rear sight to snag on the draw, has the buttery smooth trigger and action of the K frame Smiths then this is the gun for you. Throw in the fact that the 3" was the revolver issued to FBI agents for years and it adds to the mystique. I've been lucky to snag two 4" models but the 3" has eluded me.

The three inch allows for more positive extraction of the fired cases than a two or two and a half inch.

MANY old timer LEO's want that pistol. It's EXACTLY what they carried before they switched to tactical tupperware. And at $400 that's a smokin deal.

Yes, consignment gun. Came in the day before. Only bummer is consignment firearms must sit in the store for 30 days. So 20 extra days on top of the 10 day.

If it has the original stocks, and you do change them out, keep them with the gun. Otherwise, you'll lose some value. And if the target stocks you're thinking about are Goodyears, be aware they can have corrosion form under them real easy.

That's bizarre, I was thinking $400 was about right. Maybe $200 - $300 more if in 95%+ condition with box, tools and papers.

You guys know we still have SAE, right? Cuz you can find decent examples of these on GB in the $300 - $400 range. Heck I'm window-watching a pre-lock 6" 629 that has a couple pimples, with a starting bid of $600. It's been re-listed and nobody's made one move on it.

How much does SAE cost? I've been wanting to try it out, but then you pay : shipping / transfer fee/ SAE fee. So probably another $130- $150?

True that. I would love a S&W Model 19 nickel and 2 1/2".

That's going to vary quite a bit. For example, I have some old hammers laying around and can do the conversion myself in the receiving shop in maybe ten minutes. So for me it would just be the usual costs for an internet buy, ~ $100. There is a good amount of info around here on dealers that offer SAE, you just have to root it out.

I have no comnnection with the seller, but if anybody's interested in that 629:Here tis

I'd bet money that there are very few agencies that issued M13s other than the FBI. Although it is kind of special in that app, since it was the last revolver the FBI ever issued.

The do have deals on used guns..

I got a gen1 Glock 17 for $300 (no mags) and a Llama mini-1911 380 for $200.. I've seen some great deals but you need to luck into them.

Nice score.

You can get lucky once in awhile since Turners list the price at what they feel it should sell for, they don't let a customer mark up the price.

You're a lucky man to find that one at a good price.

Several years ago I walked into Turners to buy a box of bullets.

Sitting in the case was a 1959 vintage Model 14 marked at $450.

I bought it right then and there.

Grab them when you can. Congratulations!

I owned one back in the 90's, beautiful Firearm, sold it at a gun show to help purchase a Sig P226 which I still own. Interesting I purchased the model 13 at the Vista CA Wal Mart when Wal Mart sold handguns they had a catalog full of hand guns from which you could order from, those where the days. Now that I have moved to Arizona I have a hankering for a six gun.
