Default I think I got an ammo deal

I am traveling out of state right now and pulled into a LGS that usually has some good C&R rifles to see what they have. The C&Rs were sparse this time with only a bubba-ed Mauser, Arisaka, and another non descript C&R. I then noticed some ammo cans and checked them out.

First stack was cans of 192 rounds of USGI M2 ball in enblocs and bandoleers for $125.

The second stack was 1098 rounds of USGI M1 Carbine on stripper clips and in Bandoleers for $325.

The garand food looks like 1967 LC and the Carbine is also LC although I have not pulled it out yet to check the year.

I bought a few cans, but may see if I can get a Uhaul for my return trip so I can pick up some more.

It seems all the carbine ammo is now .50 cents a round. For .30 cents per round you found a great deal.

Its in Northern Utah. I didn't post the name as there are some here who might call them, ask to have it shipped, and then jack the price up for resale. If anyone happens to be in N Utah, PM me and I'll pass the info along after I grab a couple more cans today.

Hopefully you did not end up with corrosive LC Carbine ammo. Check the head stamp. And let us know what it is.

If it's made in the USA is isn't corrosive. However, there was some Chinese ammo that is corrosive. It was imported in the 90's in spam cans with tan cardboard sleeves and the boxes are marked LC52 in blue ink. The box is marked 7.62 MM LC and the head stamp is LC 52.

Thanks for the heads up. I thought LC was Lake City so there wouldn't be an issue. The head stamp on the carbine ammo is LC72 and the lot code on the bandoleers is LC-50-226. There are no dates on the bandoleers and there are 10 rds per clip, 2 clips per pouch, 6 pouches per bandoleer.

The story from the LGS was this was purchased from DCM and when the purchaser passed away, the family brought it to the gun shop for liquidation.

I found this thread on another forum that provides a little insight into what I have.

https://forum.cartridgecollectors.or...72-and-73/6820

The strippers do have the numbering on them and the key was also there in the first pouch. I also found a date on a bandoleer and it is K.P.M. 5/71.

So is it headstamped LC 52 or LC72, confused as one post you made implies 52, the other 72? Maybe I am misreading something. The LC52 is if I remember right the bad stuff.

The LC 52 marked stuff I think maybe was not even made in the Lake City plant. May have been some king of foreign knockoff fake LC stuff.

But as always my mind is aging and I have been out of Collecting Carbines since the early 90s.

Mine is head stamped 72. I believe the 52 was Enfield47's post describing what the bad stuff was.

For those that might be interested, here is the contact information for the shop with the ammo and they said they would ship.

Kent's Sports Store
307 Washington Blvd, Ogden, UT 84404
(801) 394-8487

As of this AM they had about 15 cans of each in stock.

I have had a couple of inquiries about whether I would be willing to bring some back for people and unless I know you or have done business with you, probably not. It would be a significant problem for me if it got stolen on the way back to the PRK and I had to eat the costs.

Anyone want to facilitate a group buy? I don't have any company freight connections but what would be the only economical way to do it.
