Can I use 30-round magazines with a BB semi-automatic rifle? NO! (2019, BBRAW, Yes)
As of January 1, 2017, the definition of 'assault weapon' changes, so this is no longer applicable. See the last post. No, no, a thousand times no! That creates an 'assault weapon'; avoiding that problem is the whole point of using a magazine locking device. See the sticky in the handguns forum for details. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=387409

You would put a mag-lock device on your RAW? That's OK by me, but seems a bit odd.

If a gun... ANY centerfire semiautomatic rifle or any semiautomatic pistol (including rimfire)... has a fixed magazine, it can not have a capacity greater than 10. If a gun... ANY gun, has a detachable magazine and is otherwise legal in that condition... it may have a capacity of a billion rounds. On the AR, in it's "standard" configuration, it must have a BB to be legal, so it would be a fixed magazine and limited to 10 rounds. If it is featureless... Monsterman grip or other pistol grip alternative, no flash hider, fixed buttstock, etc... then it does not need a BB, and thus, can use high caps.

Note: in 2017, this issue goes away.
Mags > 10 rounds become illegal to own for most people, and 'bullet buttons' no longer suffice to avoid a rifle being classified as an 'assault weapon'.
