The threat of an outpost being overrun is always real. Obviously there are the daily harassing attacks, but overruns are more common than most the public realizes. As my unit was transient on it's way into country, 173rd Airborne was overrun at Wanat. We were en route to relieve them and were one week late. During my year there, just over the border in neighboring Nuristan, an ANA outpost with a few Americans was over run. We QRF'd out there and helped recover the surviving kid napped ANA. I left in July 2009, the MOH story is from Oct 2009. RC east.... that place is wild.
