Default Free Military Manuals Online

http://www.survivalebooks.com/usmilitarymanuals.html

Found this site when I was bs-ing around looking for a place to get good quality manuals for cheap cus you can never have too much knowledge, I mean come on now wouldn't it be awesome to be able to read up on how to do route recon and operate/maintain/fix radar stations ... Well this site has a bunch of free manuals that I thought some of you might enjoy.

I vote that we should make a sticky thread containing all the places to get manuals and info... doesn't have to be my thread just a thread in general where people can go to get info about reading materials and books, manuals, diagrams, maps, etc

Knowledge is just as important in a bug out scenario as guns or knives or food

That makes sense; this seems to be a good, long-term-interest topic.

Stickied, and a lot of low-content posts - summary = "thanks, good idea!" - deleted.

But, thanks - good idea!

This site has USAF, US Army, USMC, USN plus Canadian manuals. Most are updated 1990's & 2000's instead of the 50's - 70's manuals.

http://www.stevespages.com/page7c.htm

Enjoy!

I ran across several FREE, as in $0, books on Kindle and after a little googleing found most if not all and even more are posted on Project Gutenberg. This is a website that seeks to take every book that is in public domain and post it for download!

US Military Instructors Manual from 1917 (Yeah, it's old but much of it is still relevant)
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/14625...-h/14625-h.htm

Infantry Drill Reg's US Army, 1911
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/20866...-h/20866-h.htm

I'm still digging up more. I'll try to post a complete list over the weekend.

I have a college education, and consider myself pretty sharp. Yet I have always had a lot of trouble reading military manuals. I had trouble with them when I was in the military and still have trouble with them now. The writing style almost always makes for a difficult read. Which is ironic since the goal is to be as straight forward as possible. Don't get me wrong, my test scores were always top in my class. I just never enjoyed the writing style embraced by the military. I found it to be counter productive. I actually learned a lot more from commercially available books on the same subject matter written by former military personnel and cleanup by professional editors than the official manuals. If only because they don't put you to sleep.

Still, this is a great resource. Especially since it is free! I'll do my best to put it to good use.

50's to 70's manuals hardly seem worth reading. Technology has changed by leaps and bounds.

Oooh, thanks Rp3589.

Shall we say survivalism forum was overtaken and re-purposed? Very NSFW.

While military FM's are all well & good for us grownups, what if you have "little guys" in your bug out/retreat location someday? "Ragnar's Improvised Explosives" might still be a BIT too much for 'em.

As this is the 1965 version, it's PRE-political correctness, has clear illustrations, and is written to be understood by a 6th grader. It'll also give the little ones USEFUL and age-appropriate skills to employ around the homestead (moreso than cellphone or Nintendo "skills" ). And UNTIL you get to the boogaloo bugout, it still has LOADS of useful camping/hiking/outdoor activities you can train on in the interim.

The 1965 Boy Scout Handbook (1967 printing)... in pdf.
