Default Made my first holster and it turned out alright...I think

Long story short;

I couldn't find a company that would make a holster for my P10c, it's pretty new so I understand. I'm still trying to find decent sights even.

So I decided to try and make one, I figured it couldn't be that hard. My brother has made a few IWB himself so I asked him for help.

And after a few hours I managed to make one, turned out pretty good in my opinion, I still may buy a ventcore or Alien gear 3 in 1 if they ever make it in the P10c but for now I'm pretty happy.

I think next will be the M&P 5" since I can't seem to find a decent kydex holster for it either.

Anyone have any advice for making holsters or insight I can take from them on cost savings for flare to make it more comfortable?

I have Quick clips in the mail to finish it off, might make an AIWB next too

So here it is:

Thanks again!!

Nice work. I got lucky and mine fits in a G19 Comptac Mtac like it was made for it. It won't fit in my safariland ALS though which is the opposite of what I expected.

Try daraholsters.com, they will custom make anything.

Thanks guys, I worked hard on it and I'm pretty happy with the outcome.... I'll try another one for my M&P and some mag carriers next.

Well I wanted to clear my draw hand and not have rivets and kydex in the way.

I originally had a 15 degree cant on it but I still want l it to hug my body. I have speed clips that will go on the top two rivets so it should hang lower still but you're right it could get up there with a different belt mount.

Looking at it now, I could have put the rivets a little bit higher up and the nose of the gun a little lower. It's hard to see the end product when you're first starting, I guess I'll have to think of that next time.

I plan on making one more and using pancake paddles. I'll have to figure out how to get plenty of room to grab the butt of the gun and still clear all the rivets and kydex.

Anyone have experience with the blade tech drop offset mount or safariland drop mount?

These are the speed clips that will hang on the top.

Op can you give some details on the work up?
I have a couple sheets of kydex I wanted to mess with.

Heat gun? Did you use anything else? Did you have to make a mold or vice jig etc?

Borrowed my brothers heat gun, used some foam from around the garage and sheets of wood for the pressing;

for the major forming I used a toaster oven, then foam pressed between to planks of wood. After that cooled and set, it was all heat gun to get the retention better and flatten some of the wavy parts out. Rivet punch is pretty crucial too. After that was really bunch of cutting and sanding.

A mold would have been great but we didn't have one. Also as stated above a vacuum press is pretty much cheating if you can afford one also, I wouldn't mind trying it one day but they aren't cheap.

I learned that kydex is pretty fixable with a heat gun even after the holster is made, just watch to make sure the kydex doesn't get too hot or it will start peeling upward like shrink wrap.

Great job man for a first run. There is a guy on Facebook under the handle Steve's Custom Kydex. He does it as a side gig.

https://www.facebook.com/Steves-Cust...9986529435778/

He's made me and my uncle a couple of holsters. Real friendly guy and would probably be more than happy to talk kydex with you.

I'm in San Diego, hit me up and perhaps I can help you make one. I'm sure it will be be for a G17/34... that's on my short list so I could use the practice.

Update...

This is the holster with the speed clips installed.

The holster sits low enough for me and hugs the body well.

I also made my second holster today with the pancake wings....

I wanted to add variety so I went with a lower mount and a 15 degree cant.....I still got enough clearance for my hand.

That's some nice work! Does not look like a first time effort at all.

Did you try any of the G19 holsters first? That was part of their marketing anyway, that it should drop into most holsters for the Glock since it was the rabbit they were chasing.

That's sweet. I was youtubing kydex holsters. Looks very doable. I want something for my 6" gp100 I can take hunting, something I can drop from the belt. Might have to give this a shot.

I did but I've read a few reviews with people saying some G19 holster fit and some don't. I guess I could have chanced it but after pricing out good holsters I'm way ahead by making my own and I've learned something.

Now I can make one for my 5" m&p and some mag holders too.

I'm so far about $100 invested in materials and I have about three holsters (4 if you count a little aiwb) and three double mag carriers worth of product. I'm way ahead than if I went out and bought them each individually.

I still wouldn't mind a ventcore but I'll get own fo those someday haha. Surprisingly they released a P10c holster. But they average $120-$170.

Nice work op! Looking good and good flexibility. Is that a mag release on the RH side facing outward? If so, I would look at having the kydex come over the mag release to make sure it doesn't accidentally get bumped and pop your mag out. Just a thought.

Ya I thought about that but the P10 has an ambi mag release..... I had to make a decision, cover the mag release and have kydex hitting my finger every time I draw or not.

I guess I'll have to see if that becomes an issue. It's not extended and doesn't depress easily so I think I'm fine... I have yet to wear the holster all day.

I'll see if I can keep it covered and not disturb the grip and draw.

I guess I'm still learning all the little things haha. I can say I now understand why good holsters cost so much. There is a lot of thought and labor that goes in to them.

My XD-m also has an ambi mag release. My kydex holster from KT Holsters partially covers the mag releases. They leave just enough to be able to hit it if you really really wanted to. But they don't leave enough for it to be accidentally hit.

Nice project OP!

Once you've mastered the shaping/heating etc., you're gonna start making cell phone holsters along with anything else you can conceive of. Mags, flashlight, credit card ID sleeve?

Buy more kydex now!
You've been warned.

Thanks guys, I'm just trying to finish up holster for the guns I have, then mag holders .... I want to take a pistol class next month.

I'm planning on buying a G34 or G17 soon so I'll make one for that as well.

I'll post updates.
