Default 6.5x55 Swede surplus ammo: Wooden bullets

I have a box of surplus ammo that I found at a local shop a while back & I started looking for some more online tonight. I heard that it dried up but I still wanted to see if there's any hanging around. I found something described as "6.5x55 Swedish Ball with Wooden Bullet. " "Caution: Special care should be taken when firing this ammo. Wooden bullets can penetrate."

Hmm, never heard of wooden bullets before. Would it fire fine in a stock Swede m/96. Does it fly straight? Accurate?

I think it is practice ammo, maybe good to 50 yards.

Ahhh, okay. I actually found some info on them somewhere else & I now understand that these are their 'blanks'. Their blanks are different from ours apparently haha. I've heard of there being a muzzle device for their blank ammo. Hmm..Wonder If I should buy some just because.

If it is dirt cheap. If it is boxer primed, which is unlikely, you might be able to reload it. It is likely just fireworks.

Should fire just fine, wouldn't know how well the wooden bullets will fly, though. As far as I understand it, they were to be fired with this: Blank Firing Adapter attached. Basically turns the bullet into saw dust to prevent injury during exercises or something. I guess they'd fly far enough to be considered a hazard, thus the device. If your Swede's barrel has a threaded end you can use that thingy.

Real 6.5mm Surplus, though, is hard to come by. I really haven't seen any of it myself.

Thanks guys. It's $19.80 per 200 or $79 for 800 round case.
They can also come web linked for $10 more at 200 rounds or a 1,750 round case for a bit under $200. My barrel has a...recess or a 'step' but there are no threads on it, unfortunately. I opened up my box of real surplus ammo just to take a look at it and compare it to my Miwall new manufactured rounds. The surplus looks to be seated out further, they look pretty bad ***! I'd love to shoot it but I bought it as a souvenir, I guess. This company also has inert training ammo, I guess those would be like snap caps?

I have yet to make a Swede mauser chamber cast, but from what I recall of some old experiments, the throat is very long on those. I suspect modern 6.5x55 hunting ammo has two feet of jump in those old rifles.

Samco.

I think that the belted stuff is considered a high capacity "mag" in California.

I don't think it is worth buying unless you can reload the cases.

Shoot, I would have bought one as a souvenir too. I may buy some of this stuff to mess around with(rapid fire). I don't plan on trying to reload berdan primer cases. I'd love to get a sling from them anyways. Did you see the Sig on the main page? What a deal!

Swede ammo with wood bullets are blanks made to be fired with the blank adapter. I have a crate of Practice/short range ammo, and it's a totally different round. Both would put a serious hurt on you at close range.

I have some of the swede Gallery rounds, its a 6gr copper bullit over a healthy powder load. Loud as all get out and the thin copper bullit flys streight for 20 to 30 feet. I heard they used them as indoor training rounds. The wooden rounds were used as training blanks with some recoil. I have used some of the gallery rounds teaching my wife to shoot a bolt action. It recoils like a 22! DR

It was specifically designed for attacks by the Pinoccio army against the coo-coo clock home guard.

There are also Swedish .308 and 5.56 "blanks" with wood projectiles as well as 9x19 ones with plastic projectiles.
Without the blank firing adapter these are not really blanks and can cause some serious damage at close range.
Back home they were very popular as a means to kill animals in traps, since there's no risk of ricochets or over-penetration..
They also work great for celebratory gun fire

Whatever you do,dont`t reload the cartridges using the powder that comes in the blanks. It`s fatal to do that.Use modern powders and follow the reloading manuals.

Think l have to clearify what l wrote yesterday. What l meant was that the powder in the "wooden bullet"cases are filled with an extremely fast powder like Bullseye and the rest you can figure out yourselv.

Greetings from Sweden

Wow, awesome to see someone from Sweden on here. I bet the prices for factory ammo are a lot more reasonable there as well as the surplus rifles themselves! I'm thinking maybe I should buy these so I can use the brass to reload later but they're probably berdan primed, right?

I had that same thought a few years ago, when the subject came up on TFL.

The reply I got:

Well I was thinking he was the only Swede here living in Sweden There may be some American's with Swedish roots here on Calguns but was definitely not expecting any living in the actual country!

Ahhh. I completely forgot about the berdan primers altogether when I was typing that until I finished hehe. Wanted to shoot those bullets out but I'm not interested in working with berdan. So much for that!

Btw, not much in terms of surplus ammo or surplus rifles available in Sweden anymore.
A _ton_ of the rifles were shipped abroad, so they're easier to find here than in Sweden. Same goes for the AG42, unfortunately.
