Intermediate Tactical Handgun:

Instructor(s): Patrick Deasy / Gordon Gray

Date: July 8, 2018, 0830 - 1630

Range: Sacramento Valley Shooting Center

Course Fee: $175.00 (includes range fees)

Real defensive shooting can happen in any circumstance and when we are least expecting it. Train to initiate or return fire in worst-case situations and environments, in awkward body positions with a moving attacker.

In this course, we'll cover , Firearms Safety, including Range Safety and Commands, Dry-fire Practice, Modes of Readiness, Principles of Personal Defense, Introduction to Tactics, Drawing and Shooting from a Holster, Drawing and Shooting from a Concealed Carry Device, Introduction to Movement: Shooting While Moving, Strong Hand and Weak Hand Shooting, How to Clear Malfunctions, Timed Drills to Improve Your Ability to Function Under Stress, Multiple Shots on a Single Assailant, Multiple Shots on Multiple Assailants, Point Shooting vs. Sighted Shooting, Extreme Close Quarters Shooting, Cover and Concealment: Engaging targets from cover, Extra: Friendly, fun competition events on reactive targets!

Eligibility Requirements:
This course is NOT designed to teach first-time beginners how to shoot. You must already have had some training, and possess solid, safe gun handling skills.

We teach, and you learn through positive feedback which builds self-confidence. We believe that you should not only develop good shooting skills, but the confidence to apply those skills in a self-defense scenario, if the need arises.

The overall pace of the course is at a medium, steady speed, with many repetitions and breaks to review and assess your performance. For many of the exercises, you will work in teams of two. Women are encouraged to attend this course with a friend or spouse.

You must be physically capable of performing the movement drills - specifically, moving forward, back, and side to side in unison with the line of shooters. While these drills are not strength or stamina intensive, they require good concentration, coordination and, above all, total adherence to safety.

Careless/unsafe gun handling practices are not permissible and will be cause for removal from the line faster than you can blink.

Required Equipment:
  • Modern Working Handgun (9mm - 45acp - approved by instructor)
  • 350 rounds of ammunition
  • Three magazines or speed loaders (minimum)
  • Magazine pouches
  • Belt holster (Strong side, Open, Concealed, Duty or Tactical)
  • Pants with belt (no shorts)
  • Hearing protection
  • Eye protection
  • Ball Cap
  • Personal Water Supply
  • Weather Appropriate Gear (sun screen, rain gear, etc.)
Recommended but not required:
  • Pants w/cargo pockets
  • Elbow pads / Knee pads
*** Prerequisite: Certificate of completion from our Fundamental Handgun course or a comparable course from an accredited instructor required to attend (please contact for approval prior to singing up). Equivalent experience will be considered on a case by case basis. LEO's this is a great place to begin.
