Default Somebody's AR was bursting today...

So, I was at Concord range today, and somebody's AR was firing bursts... He came over and asked me for advice (since I was firing an AR as well), and I told him that it was probably a broken FCG, and to replace it ASAP. I told him to head down to Irvington Arms for a replacement FCG... and that the ATF has jailed people for having a broken trigger.

It was a blackthorne AR, so my guess is that buying cheap in this case could result to a trip to club fed.

Now, in my mind, if my AR started bursting, I would leave ASAP to get that fixed.... But, he stayed and kept shooting. Anything I should have done differently?

You should have asked to shoot it so you could temporarily experience a God-given right in CA

I'm surprised the ROs didn't get after him.

He continued to shoot? That is really stupid. Not only could he have gotten the attention of LE or the Feds but certain malfunctions can have some dangerous results to both the user and to the firearm. I would have advised him that unless he knows the source of the malfunction and fixes it he could damage his rifle, himself, and expose himself to some nasty felony charges.

I think that with the number of people shooting yesterday, it was hard for the RO to tell if somebody was bursting. I do believe that the Mr. Burster stopped shooting the AR for awhile, but then resumed firing.

Stupid. Oh well!

Do a function test and make sure the disconnector is engaging. The disconnector spring could be reversed. It could also be a stuck firing pin and it's slam firing.

I wonder if it could have been some soft primers and slamfiring?

Default AR

I would have taken all the parts( fire control parts , springs , pins ) out of the lower ASAP. and if for one second i thought the RO, or cops were going to give me a hard time for semi-auto legal AR slam firing with soft primers i would toss the parts... and buy another set for 75.00

He probably just had a bent up paperclip fall into his FCG the last time he cleaned it.

Just imagine it with the bends done differently.

you're bad, bad people...

Maybe he needed to tie his shoes.

My money is on a missing disconnector spring.

Or a backwards disconnector spring.
That's the most likely culprit.

I have one of the Timmeny trigger that drop in to replace the milspec setup and all you have to do to go FA is relax your hold on the rifle. Just about everyone who has shot the rifle has a extra eyebrow. Its legal but kinda goofy if your at the range and dont know what to expect....she works great on varmint though.

My guess is the guy forgot to add a disconnector spring to his build.

The first time I bump-fired with my Varmint/Timney was an accident. Can't say it was the same after that.

So, so easy to do.
