Default If you could only have 3 rifle calibers...

Maybe you have 3 hunting rifles or less but im guessing most of you guys have more than 3.

If you could only have 3 hunting rifle calibers what would they be?

It could be for game small to large or just your favorites

Caliber- .257---Cartridges 257R/25-06/257W
Caliber 6.5mm-----Cartridges 6.5X55/264win mag/6.5X300W
Caliber .308---Cartridges 30-30/308win/30carbine/30-40Kraig/30-06/300win mag/7.5Swiss

I also would need a 338winmag and 223/5.56. A 22RF would be nice
OP--You did state CALIBER and not CARTRIDGE

.30-30
.30-'06 These are CF. You HAVE to include a .22 lever in there somewhere.

Probably .22lr, .223 and .30-06, which means I'd have to give up my .243.

The thing is, I may have a couple of opportunities to hunt sitka blacktails on Kodiak. They're small enough to take down with a .223 but you need something that will put down a predatory bear and I go back and forth on whether the .30-06 is enough gun for a big Kodiak bear. So another possibility is .22lr, .223 and .300win.

243 can be the poor mans 22-250 or a good deer rifle with lead-free mono bullets.

Current list is:
  • 17 hmr
  • 22 lr
  • 5.56
  • 303 Savage
  • 30-30
  • 300 BLK
  • 308 Winchester
  • 300 Win Mag
  • 45 Long Colt
  • 450 Bushmaster
  • ...

May have missed a few, but if I had to cut it down it would depend on the scenario that was forcing the reduction. For 'hunting' I really only have two I'd use for hunting right now, the 300WM and the 450, maybe press the old 30-30 back into service once in a while.

My grandad said all you needed was a good 12 gauge, a 22 hornet, and a 45-70 for any US game. Of course, he also said scopes were for sissies. And he hunted drunk.

22lr, 22-250, .308 for me.
