G Lock's Featureless Grip fin
I wanted to make a featureless fin grip but I diddnt like the idea of a dedicated grip using epoxy to attach the fin on, so i came up with this. Basically the retention system consists of a slit on the fin and a cotter pin placed perpendicular to the wall of the pistol grip. This secures the fin such that it cant be pulled or pushed horizontally. With this system, you can remove the fin if you ever go to a free state and have a pistol grip
Materials needed: 2mm thick aluminum plate 2 Cotter pins 1 pistol grip cardboard or corrugated fiberboard spray paint (optional) tools needed: scissors Hacksaw Bench clamp or vise Emery cloth or sandpaper Various files Dremel or electric drill cutting discs Last edited by G lock; 02-10-2013 at 7:26 PM.. in a nutshell these are the steps to make the grip:
1. Take pistol grip and cut a slit slightly <2mm on the rear 2. Make a template from the corrugated paper 3. Transfer the template pattern to the aluminum plate 4. Cut pattern with hack saw 5. Round off edges using files 6. Cut a slit on the fin that is flush with the inside wall of the pistol grip Uploaded with ImageShack.us 7. drill holes for better clip retention 8. Sand/ Primer/ Paint (optional) I apologize that I did not take pictures during the build, I made this grip a while back and this thread was more of an afterthought. I was thinking of producing a few but decided not to because the fit would vary (gap) depending on the stock used. I might be persuaded to make a few more if there is enough interest

Go straight, make a left, then stop. Look to the right, you will see a hardware store. Go there.

Not loosely, I fitted the fin such that it would stay in place because of pressure against the stock but just enough to be able to adjust it to either side. If you look closely the fin was moved to the left to accommodate the thumb side of my palm (im right handed). I also made the tolerances pretty small on the pistol grip slit to reduce any play.

I have searched Home Depot and Lowes and could not find 2mm plate. Thought someone may have had a better suggestion, but I guess that's too much to ask.
