$30 DROS?

Got charged $30 and some change the other day when i DROS'd my sp2022.

I thought it was $25? (19+1+5)

I asked when the fee went up and the girl said it's always been $30.. Checked online and it still says $25

Was it lumped into one fee for $30? If it was $25+ $5 dealer fee, then that is legal.

Not sure, there were a few fees but i havent looked at my receipt yet. Just struck me as odd

Turners charges a $5 handling fee.

They can charge up to $10, so it's pretty cool that Turners only charges $5. I just bought a Glock at Pro Force and the DROS was $35. I was shocked because I have bought so many guns at Turners and the DROS was always $30.
But then again, Pro Force can get away with it because Blue Label Glocks are a steal.

They charge $35 for a FTF transfer, but only $30 if you by it from them.

they aren't limited to $10 for a sales transfer.

they can charge whatever they want as a dealer fee, as long as they declare it as such.

they only time they are limited to a $10 dealer fee is when it is a CA-defined PPT.

Please clarify. Do you mean out of state transfers or non-face to face transfers they can charge more than the $10? It is my understanding that on all face to face PPTs in Ca the FFL cannot charge more than the $10 fee. They can require you make an appointment request in writing though.

If they were going to charge a higher fee to sell firearm at their store wouldn't they just raise the sale price?

Also, I do not believe Turner's will do non face to face PPTs

I mean that for any transfer (out-of-state, in-state shipped, dealer sale, etc) other than a CA-defined PPT, that they can change anything they want, provided that they state that it is a dealer fee and not a state fee.

you would think so, but they would apparently rather sell you the gun for $500 and then charge you a $5 dealer fee versus sell you the gun for $505.

and in the post regarding ProForce, it appears that they tack on a $10 dealer fee for in-store purchased firearms. don't know if it is for all firearms or just those Blue Label Glocks that have a fixed-price IIRC. Sounds like if they can't mark up the cost of the gun, they get you with an extra dealer fee.

The State's DROS fee is $19.00 which covers the costs of the background checks and transfer registry. There is also a required $1.00 Firearms Safety Testing fee and a $5.00 Safety and Enforcement fee. If the transaction being processed is a dealer sale, consignment return, or return from pawn, the dealer may impose other charges as long as this amount is clearly shown as a "dealer fee" and not misrepresented as a state fee. In the event of a private party transfer, the firearms dealer may additionally charge a fee of $10 per firearm transferred.

When settling on the purchase price of a firearm and before completing the transaction, you may want to ask the dealer to disclose and identify any and all fees he/she is charging to complete the transaction.

What fees can I charge for handling a Private Party Transfer (PPT)?

turner's charge $35 for ppt, $30 for new/used/consignment.

they used to charge $35.00 for consignments.

other places like big5 charges $25 for new and $35 for ppt.
