Default Placer County practice

Hey guys. Im new here. Im looking for some resources on how to practice CCW skills. Specifically drawing from concealment and firing among other skills. Im open to all suggestions. Id love to hear of a range or mountainous region where I can practice safely.

If you have suggestions for online resources, Id love to hear those as well.

I tried searching for this topic on this forum but wasnt able to narrow down the search results enough.

Thanks!

My preferred drawing practice is this: unloaded firearm, and load a new snap cap in the chamber. Practice drawing from concealment. If the snap cap never gets a hammer strike, then you are ready to practice at a safe range with live ammo, where permitted. Helped me gain a lot of trust in my own skills.

^^^Good advice. I started the same way and still do more dryfire exercises than training with live ammo. If you don’t have much experience with holster work and live ammo, it’s a potential disaster waiting to happen.

OP, as far as outdoor areas go, good luck. Less and less each year in Placer, with a few more spots being shut down or restricted already this spring. Anyone with a good spot likely won’t share, I know I won’t. Depending on your location will determine a lot as well.

Best of luck and shoot safe.

Here’s a good link for ranges in the greater region. Can’t say if they’re all still open or not.

I'd brows around
http://www.idpa.com/compete/clubsear...ryId=1&search=

and then contact the IDPA club closest to you and ask them.

I would suggest taking a fighting pistol type class where the curriculum is ccw and drawing from concealment. Once you have the fundamentals, you can then practice on your own. Most ranges dont have a problem with drawing from concealment if you talk to them first, and present your credentials. Check out Jason and Chris over at www.guncraftsolutions.com.
In the beginning, i studied the videos on the matter by Gabe Suarez, Jeff Cooper, James Yeager, Chris Costa & Travis Haley, just to name a few.

No substitute for COMPETENT instruction and building up slowly to a fast and safe draw/first shot.
