Default Should the lady's forum be locked to women only

The question more or less just came up in another thread and I am curious what people think.

Personally I am conflicted on the topic.

I would love a place where I could just rant about my ... er, dog and have it stay in a small sheltered space, there are other issues I would probably like to be able to discuss in private as well.

That said for me the questions men ask and the input of them sometimes outweigh the bad and newbies wouldn't have access to a women's only forum and I think that would be bad for all the women who are new to this site.

I think that the Women's Forum should not be locked to men.

I mostly want to hear what the women say on questions, like women's holsters for instance, but certain men also ask good questions and provide good responses.

It's just the haters and the brat-boys who need to be off the air. I'd like the grown up men on the thread to instruct them in civilized behavior, personally. And I'm going to be quicker with the objection triangle. I helped get certain grotesque photos off the Forum, for instance.

It's really interesting, there's a thread on the Womens Forum on Glocktalk, that is mostly about breast cancer, some really true feelings coming out, women supporting other women strongly. And the little boys didn't want to be anywhere near that one! Even though male breast cancer was discussed fully.

And I do think that we should start a thread inside the Women's Forum to contain Women's RANTS. We need such a place, clearly. I'd read it with interest...

So, IMHO, let's go on as we started, and just learn to defend ourselves and each other more effectively.

Honestly to pick one, I picked one; but I think its alright when guys post in here, just when its repeating questions, or random in life Q's kinda sure guys can ask other women in their life about relationship issues, and etc...

For us if we are random here, I think its fine, but it is a LADIES FORUM, feels more like a work place cafe, with everyone sitting down. JMV.

I'd have to stay far far away from a ladies' rant thread.

I don't tend to keep rants SFW. It's hard enough for me to keep my language clean on here, don't get me started on rants. HA!

Arisaka, if you want a men's section, ask a moderator to make one. It's not our concern.

(Some would tell you that the whole rest of the site is the boys club, but I'd never say that...)

The sub-forum needs some female mods.

there appears to be a deep resentment by some male calgunners that they have to abide by the Ladies Forum rules or get called on their "attidude" [misspelling deliberate]. if those persons would either abide by the rules or learn to refrain from being jerks, there wouldn't be a problem.

there are some male calgunners that bring a lot to the table and interact appropriately. i'd hate to have them not participating.

and there are some that usually do ok but just do not realize that women are looking for support from other women [olive's thread comes to mind] and end up making this a place where women no longer feel they can come to complain. not sure what the cure is for that.

i admit to having mixed feelings but only because some of the men think they can come in and not be polite and/or follow the rules.

Sure, sign in as a "lady" and you'll have your own section...it's fine as long as you're locked out of the rest of the site.

On two other forums I am on, I don't even let ppl know I'm a woman. Only long standing members who've met me in person know. Always have to voice that I'd like to keep my gender unknown to random members because they had talked down to me on my original handle. I have better vehicles. And they're actually built. Not with generic bolt ons. But there's a sense of compensation that random immature members seemed to radiate...there was a ladies section too. I brought 18-20 members from my own car group...ended up closing it and making a new handle because guys kept posting for dates. Love life therapy and advice. Guys kept asking for pics of some of them after seeing a pic of a hot rod cruise and shooting meet...

I mean there are some great guys here, but in general this really is an open forum. So as long as guys remember where they are. And that gruff attidude as someone put it lol. It's all good I guess.

I agree that the Ladies Forum should be open to all Calgunners.

But I would also like the option for women CGNers to choose to have their "Women-only" threads be answered by women only. In another forum, while I was posting a picture thread, somebody went in and posted a photo (not his) of the same event. Definitely spoiled "my" picture thread before I'd finished posting it. And the forum owner apparently agreed with me (from about 60-something miles away). Because within minutes he created (and debuted as a feature) the option for thread starters to keep other people from posting in newly created photo threads. Thread posters had to write "Posting" in their new threads to avoid hijacking by others. Something similar for the Ladies Forum could also be created for "Women-Only" threads. (Of course that would mean female CGNers would have to be identified. That could be a stickied, "I Am Woman" thread all by itself in the Ladies Forum.)

Also in that other forum, the owner wrote a code that before someone posts a picture thread, he or she has to affirm that the photos are about the specific forum subject (motorcycles). IIRC the poster is asked twice the question and thus must hit the submit button twice. Something like that could be written to get known male CGNers to think twice as to whether their contributions are indeed worthy of female CGNers' attention. lol

And of course I will always be in favor of continuing the banning from the Ladies Forum of male CGNers who cannot abide by the forum rules. Keep the idiots out!

When a woman's issue comes up that I think my wife may have good input on. She will post using my account. She has said she has no interest in having her own account. It is what it is. I have also ask my wife her opinion and post it. My wife told me..........

Equal means equal or seperate but equal? Really, if there is any topic that any certain set of people doesn't want another set of people to see or reply in, take it to PMs. There is no place on CGN where posting by females is prohibited. Why should there be a place where all males are prohibited? Also, there are some very active transexuals on calguns, whould they be prohibited? I just see any segragation of the 2A comunity to be not in our best interests.

BTW, I'm not a female so, I won't vote in the poll.

Then we'll need a gay sub-forum, and a teen forum, and an old geezer forum, don't forget mexican-american and african-american and... hell just kick out the white males and everyone will be happy, right?

CSA, good post: "dudes with 'tudes" could take a lesson.

what most calgunners forget is that Mr K started this forum and he set the rules.
don't like his forum or his rules? tell him.

i think maybe some female posters on here should get mod powers within this section only, that way they can moderate it and clean up any messes that some male posters cause by not following the rules of this section a lot faster than the mods that control the rest of the forum.

i think you are probably right.....
however, unlike other female posters, i've actually had a quick response when i hit the "mod" button....

i actually don't complain much....but i know my assertive style grates on some male calgunners....

and i do appreciate the PM's of support from the guys that are not "dudes with 'tudes"!

Considering the complaints from some people about the report post button "not working", I honestly think part of the problem is with what people are reporting, and people assuming that just because they're part of a "group" that they all think alike.

Not to point out any specific posts(and there have been a few cases of this, so it's not just the most recent and obvious one), someone posts something(sometimes it's even a woman who starts it), a poster who happens to be a woman thinks it's funny, another woman is disgusted and hits the report post button(of course that last part wouldn't be known if they didn't post that they hit the report button, but whatever).

As far as whether a section of the forum should be locked, currently the only locked sections are mod specific and the contributors section(of which I used to participate but cancelled for a number of reasons). As others have already pointed out, there is no guys only section locking women out. There's no hispanic forum, there's no black forum, asian forum, etc. If sections do start getting locked there are a couple of primary problems.

The first being, how does someone prove to kestryll what they are(and as much as some women on this forum would like to think they can spot all of the other women, they can't.) without faxing a copy of a DL(fakeable, and yes people would fake it just for the sake of doing so) and kiving kestryll a bunch of personal info?

The second would be, when does it stop? Does calguns need 30 subforums locking out most of the people on the site just because they aren't a specific gender, ethnicity, profession, and so on?

Default my personal opinion

My two cents, for what it's worth...like onequickshift, I don't always mention on every forum that I am female. But when I saw a subforum labeled "Ladies Forum"...it lead me to believe that is a place for ladies, women, girls, females, etc to discuss guns, and I kind of liked the idea. I have nothing against having sections of the site labled the Gentleman's Forum, Gay Forum, LEO Forum, Specific Nationality Forum, etc.

It's not that I don't want to interact with the men folk, because lets face it there are more of them involved in the shooting sports, and therefor a larger number of male sources of information for me to interact with and learn from. If I want to look something up about gunsmithing or armoring, I will go to sites that have subforums pertaining to those topics.

I respect that the owner of this forum has the final say, but if it were up to me, men would be able to see the ladies forum, but not to post.

Folks, The polls at the top, if you read it, has a vast majority against locking the Forum. It should be obvious that there is no need to lock anyone out who has manners.

Above, someone said that her assertive style sometimes grates on the guys on the Forum. So what? Who cares? Things grate on me all the time here and I just let it go. If guys can't handle an assertive woman, particularly an armed one, they need to join the 21st century.

I respect that the owner of this forum has the final say, but if it were up to me, men would be able to see the ladies forum, but not to post.
lol Heading to Vegas for the week for Olympia Competitions, :P most guys on another forum I am on, do not know I am a woman, so when they stand at an agreed meeting place, and I pop up, I can start handing out custom challenge coins hahaha.

I kinda enjoy being thought of, as one of the guys, other wise sometimes they treat me like I'm fragile.

But in anycase, agreed with what is also said, doesn't need to be locked, if other exercise manners, and mind where they are.

I was a lurker for a long time before I finally joined. I was reluctant to join because I noticed that some of the members on here have some "attitudes". Perhaps there can be a separate sub-forum on the Ladies Forum that can be locked for ladies only for those of us that would feel more comfortable there.

C6, I think we've got the 'attitude' problem handled here. We sent the little boys home to their mommies, and the grown-up men are standing with us.

I hope you feel comfortable here. You can PM me if you want to talk it over more. We all feel pretty good with being ourselves, and I hope you will too.

ditto re feeling free to PM me as well.
many of us women are very clear about what the rules that MR K set up and do not tolerate " dudes with 'tudes ".
if you ever have a problem PM one of us and/or hit the report button located in the red triangle in the upper right of each and every post.
there are a lot of good guys that participate in the Ladies Forum and provide good balance and info. some actually come asking for advice!
however, MR K owns calguns, set up the Ladies Forum, and made the rules for it. the guys that don't like it are free to take the issue up with him. thus far he's stuck to his rules and i'm betting he always will.
again, WELCOME!

The problem with trying to restrict the Women's forum or subdividing it, is that no one knows how to conclusively prove gender. So I don't see there is any real point, we can only tell intruders by their behavior. And trust me, we're expert at detecting people who need to be somewhere else.

Anything a woman needs to say, that is really sensitive, should be said by PM anyway, IMnsHO.

If it makes people feel better, I'm willing to moderate here. And I'm a ruthless editor....
