Planning on attending, would appreciate some advice on what rifle optic is more advantageous/popular...

1-4x24 scopes or Eotechs?

Definitely bring the 1-4x scope! EOTech will work but I'd bring a magnifier too.

Great match everyone! I'm starting to see a lot of new faces here and at Pala so the cat's outta the bag!
SoCal 3-gunners.. also remember that there is another local 3-gun match at West End Gun Club next Saturday near Lytle Creek. Life is good.

Now two dudes show up and shoot the CA class. Figures. I probably won't shoot it again anyway. It was just so I can say I shot a Hello Kitty rifle at X3 once.

Hello guys,

Lets see how this works, same thread new data.

The USPSA nationals are coming up so I have sped up the stages a little bit.

A lot of 2 gun stages, 6 - slugs, 6 - 00 Buck the spinner (pistol) the Texas Star (pistol) a disappearing target, 2 - bird throwers, the kitchen sink and a Yugo.

New distances on the Rifle flashers. From the firing line the distances are: 200-250-300-350-375 and 400 yards. It will be very challenging this month.

I am however, going to make the long range Rifle very friendly (look at the stages below)

Please get there early and get signed up so we can start on time, bring water and a snack. Remember the speed limit in and out of the range is 15mph.
The land owner has no patience for speeders.

No steel core or junk ammo, know what you are shooting! the fire danger is real.

Our web site is www.x3multigun.com
you can find more information there

or e-mail me at samhouston@x3multigun.com

See you Sunday.

Friendly suggestion to the newer shooters regarding that 400y target.. don't spend 30s shooting at it when the penalty is only 10s.

Targets are up,, I was out there today and there are some new longer range swingers...
pistol spinner, cardboard flipper and the dreaded star with pistol. Shot gun they have some flippers to hit airborne clays and some knockdowns with "OO" buck with some mild(40yd) distance slug targets. Its all good to be shootin.

Excellent match today, y'all, and I hope everyone enjoyed those 2 new 375y and 400y flashers! Be sure to thank Sammy the next time you see him for trudging up there by himself and putting down that 375Y target.

Default October Match Date

Is the next match the third Sun in Oct? I've been trying to make it out for my first attempt at 3-gunning for the last few months but life seems to always get in the way. I want to get next month's match on the calendar ASAP so it doesn't happen again. Thanks.

Yes, usually but be sure to check back here for any match updates in case of bad weather delays.
New shooters are always welcome but I'd encourage you to start shooting the pistol comps, if you haven't started already.

Hey Guys,

It's late in the week and I'm still not completely done with the stages.
I am now
I will say though you will be in for a treat this month, new Rifle and Slug steel targets.

Rifle at 75 to 150 off hand and Slug targets 50-75-100 off hand.

Also a new look at knock over shotgun targets, I am going to order 60 of these targets to introduce into the match to be shot with pistol, shotgun, and whatever else I can dream up.

You will need the usual Rifle, Pistol, Shotgun ammo with Slugs and Buck Shot.
I will be using #4 as well as 00 Buck myself.

You won't need a sling this month and not a bunch of weird stuff. Just good ole meat and potato's shooting and lots of it.

The USPSA 3Gun Nationals are the following week, so I am trying to pattern the stages like what you might see there.

I will be instituting a par time of 210 seconds on the Rifle stages and possibly on 1 or 2 of the other stages in order to keep the flow going.

The weather looks really good in the middle 70's so,
Please be early and sign up so we can get started on time.

See you all this weekend.

P.S. I will post the stages as soon as I have them finished.

The stages are posted below and on the website.
www.x3multigun.com

Thanks

Great match! Instead of the slug shots, I should have been much more worried about pistol clay birds stuck into no shoots, 400 yd rifle shots and stuffing 30 rnds in my shotgun on the clock (only dropped 1!). As a first timer, I would echo what has been said before that anyone interested in trying 3-gun should get some pistol competition experience first. I have been shooting IDPA and Steel Challenge for a few years and couldn't believe how much stuff you need to manage (gear wise and mentally during the shooting) for one of these matches. It felt like I spent more time worrying about getting to the line with the right equipment and load-out then the shooting strategy. Even with pistol experience there are different procedural/safety things that you need to learn for the long guns. I think I only managed to do one mildly stupid thing and a swift application of Sammy's boot learned me well.

All in all a great day at a nice range with challenging stages and good people. As a newby you will be guaranteed to leave your first match with two long lists - one of skills you need to practice and another of cool gear you want to buy!

Thanks to SuperSet, Sammy, Frito, Andrew, Dennis, Bronco and Justin for going easy on the new guy. I learned a lot and will definitely be back - hopefully with a rifle that runs.

It's Wednesday night and as usual I'm still working on the stages.

The weather man is calling for a chance of showers (20%) BUT, I'm not worried about that. THE MATCH IS ON!!!!!

You will need a sling for this match along with Bird, Buck, Slug, Pistol, and Rifle ammo.

I have 60 new knock over targets that I will be putting into the match this month. You won't see a lot of paper and birds in the match with the chance of wet weather. It should make for an interesting match.

I will post the stages as soon as I have them ready, hopefully tomorrow night.

Keep checking here for updates.

O.K.

It's Thursday night and as promised I have the stages finished! I'm pretty excited about them, a lot of steel knock over targets. I hope you guys like them it will make it easier in the winter to set up.

The weather man has all but taken out the possibility of rain so let everyone know that we are definitely a go!

Saturday morning, heading out to start setting up.

We are still a go for the match, the weather man says showers Sunday afternoon, we should be able to get the match in before the showers show up.

You guys are not going to melt, so I expect to see you out there.

Thanks for trying Sam and crew. Sorry it didn't work out.

Our squad was stubborn and ended up finishing 5/6 stages. Almost made it to the end but sloshed around too much on the rifle side. And you're right, it rained steadily almost the entire time we were there. I'm thankful that I didn't short out any camera equipment! You can see/hear the rain coming down starting about 1:45 in:

At least I know my equipment (sans fogged up magnifier) runs in the rain!

Phong,

You are "Da Man"
Sorry it didn't work out, I really thought we were going to get it done.

It got even worse after you left, we had to try to pick up some of the targets, didn't get to far though. I couldn't even drive a straight line it was so slippery. Almost got stuck several times and the crossing let go. We had to leave the back way. That was an adventure in it's self.

Oh well, if the weather is nice in December and I could get people to come out the weekend before Christmas I might put a match on.

What do you think?
