Default Looking for an FFL who actually wants business near Jackson, CA

I have a Ruger Precision Rifle I want to sell, and a buyer in Jackson, CA who wants it. However, none of the FFLs he has spoken with will accept a transfer from a NON FFL for some reason.

Now, I've been doing this a long time, and the ATF even says on their website it isn't a problem. I even know that gun stores trying to extort customers by overcharging and refusing transfers is a thing. That's fine. Hell, I've even found a few FFLs who want to argue with me about receiving transfers from individuals here in Utah! Personally, I don't get why a store would refuse business from a potential customer, or not know the laws that govern their business.

But can anyone step up and do this transfer for me?

Thanks!
Dave

Hi Dave.

I could probably drop it off for you when I roll through Jackson on my way between our CA and NV shop. I've never visited with Foothill Firearms, but maybe I can transfer it there for you.

Buyer is giving up after all the hassle. You're in business, someone comes into your store asking to be a customer... Maybe a small one, but still we are looking at a long period of declining sales right now. Wouldn't you do what you can to make a new customer? I called and talked to one of these stores, they weren't interested in anything beyond their incorrect interpretation of... who knows. Do I have to give marketing 101 lessons to all of them? I hate to see FFLs treat gun owners poorly.

I'm interested in it if it's one of the 6.5 Creedmoor rifles.

The joke is that often a transfer is more profitable than selling a firearm.

There have been problems, so FFLs react. One reason to not accept a firearm from a private party is that you might not get the information needed to properly log it. I solve that by not giving out my information until I get a copy of their ID. I have heard of FFLs getting a firearm which an address like 123 Main St and a name of John Doe. What does the FFL do? Refuse to deliver it to the buyer? The seller does not care and that does not solve the issue either.

We still get a "gun in a box" about once a week.

Someone goes to their local UPS store, no other return info, no info on who it is for or what it is, usually off roster. Those get return to sender'd every time.

My favorite, then the appropriate phone call a few days later from the pissed off customer because "we never called them when their gun got there"

Or the GSSF gun that shows up 14 months after a customer ordered it, and the customer is in Very North-NorCal and we are in SoCal. After calling the customer to come in and DROS they realized we weren't his local FFL and glock sent the pistol to the wrong place. Then we had to call glock and tell them they made a mistake and their book was wrong, and had them argue with us for a few hours, only to realize we were right and they shipped the firearm to the wrong place.

If there is no info and not from a FFL, how do you return it to them legally?

I guess I could turn it into PD but honestly just do a refusal and they return to sender

How do you know there is no info unless you open the box? If you open the box, you can't just return to sender.

I would agree and then the gun is received and needs to be entered into the A&D book. That makes it prohibited to return to a non FFL
