Default Mojave Desert Shooting?

Is there a place near mojave or on the way to bishop where one can go shoot rifles? There's a range in my town but it's only a handgun thing.
And what were the law requirements again about being away from a road or manmade object?

Any who, here's some pics me shooting in mammoth, which is like 6 hours away, the barstow place is too far also....

You can shoot anywhere in Rosamond as long as you're far away from any paved roads, houses and power lines.

Punch 34.892531,-118.185272 into Google Maps, its a privately owned piece of land, the owner is a former gunshop owner and lets the public shoot there.

Not anymore unfortunately. Since July 1st, or right around there, the owner posted up Private Property signs along the entire hillside. Kern Co. Sheriff has even patroled the area making sure nobody is shooting there.

There is still plenty of nice areas in Rosamond. I use google earth to find nice hillsides out in the desert.

Yup safety is on. Just so the camera woman (mrs) doesn't get hit by brass. Or else my fun time is done. The other pic I'm expressing my hate for caprisun pacific cooler. Any got info on Angeles? Are OLLs safe there and what are the hours? A range or empty land?

No ****??? Well that is unfortunate. Was a good spot too. People leaving their trash out there is undoubtedly what caused it.

Best shooting near Barstow is BLM land.... There are three areas that I shoot at.... in the hills behind Calico Ghost Town near Old Fort Irwin Road, Near Calico Ghost Town itself, and there's a nice area close to the old drive-in theater on Old Barstow Road. There is no actual range on BLM land. I think there are rules on where you can shoot shotgun, pistol, and rifle, but other than that, no RSO's and maybe an occasional ranger. The only thing to remember is to try to clean up your brass and trash as best as you can.

As far as steel core ammo on BLM land? Careful you don't start a brush fire! I don't shoot steel ammo myself, but using steel rounds can ignite a fire if one of your rounds strikes one of the many granite stones out here and it sparks.

Shooting steel core on BLM land is verboten..... Here is the official rule.......

http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/cdd/f...strictions.htm

Barstow BLM land is in what's called the "California Desert District"

The San Bernardino County Fish & Game Commission has made a map detailing all the legal places to discharge a firearm in San Bernardino County.

Barstow is out of your way but, you may want to look into Ridge Crest, China Lake, Inyo Kern areas. Lots of wide open spaces available in those areas.

I called the BLM and bought 4 maps for the areas that I'd like to shoot at. They come in handy when you need to find an area to shoot. The maps are like $6 each. You might try that.

Not to thread-jack, but does anyone know of some decent camping in the "open to shooting" areas of that map. I see lots of dry lakes, but any mountains or rivers out there?

Yugo surplus. White box "Metak" 15rnd/boxes or 40/rnd boxes on stripper clips.

Angeles has a real nice facility with metal targets and loooong ranges, but lots of rules and the RSOs are extremely fussy & overly condescending.
Burro Canyon has an OK facility but the RSOs treat you more like a human being/customer.

Visit both and make your own judgement...
