I am looking for a FFL in the Sacramento Folsom or Roseville Area that will transfer AK47 off list receivers (OLL). Does anyone have a reference in my area? I have called several and cannot find anyone who will do it.

I am probably going back to BrightSpot instead of Pennnington Firearms. Their storage fees are just too high ($15/mo). Chris only charges $5.

Not really surprised. Paul Schaffer no longer does OLLs because the ATF took 8 months or so to renew his FFL ... I'm wondering if any of them will transfer a GSG5.

Just a suggestion, we should add storage fees to the list. I know it doesn't sound like much, but some dealers charge a lot.

I think tax is just as (if not more) important than storage fees; that's an unnecessary fee to pay!

I'm also doing a transfer to Bright Spot Pawn. I checked it out last week; they have nice (older) people working there, but the shop is a little run down...let me know if you want me to go into more detail.

I just spoke with Jeff Bowman, he sounds like a very nice guy. Here is his information:

Jeffrey Bowman
Bowman's Cutlery
8293 Helena Ave
Riverside, CA 92504
Phone: 951-637-0978
Fax: 951-637-8300

Hours: 4:00pm-7:00pm Mon-Fri, 10:00am-5:00pm Sat-Sun
Transfer fees: Transfer fee $30.00, DROS fee $25.00

He does not charge sales tax, and it also sounded like he doesn't charge a holding fee either.

+1, I was doing a PPT on a stag lower and I asked him to look at one of my .22's that had a barrel coming out of the receiver. When I picked up my lower 10 days later he had fixed it and completely cleaned it- whiteglove cleaned it. and he only charged half price for the gunsmithing.

It's just as ke6guj said...you basically take the 91 South and exit Adams when you are at the 215 and 60 interchange.

I heard on Calguns that Cash Loan would be raising it's rate to $80 and assumed that didn't include the DROS fee but the price was still $80 including the DROS as of today.

Positive: Cash Loan ordered a firearm from J&G sales for me.
Negative: See below

Below is a cut and paste job from a thread I posted earlier today.

Well, today is my final dealing with the Cash Loan Pawn on Grand Avenue in SSF.

I've brought a lot of business in the last year but apparently, that counts for nothing.

I did a PPT with Gene there, and I went to pick my handgun up. I was told by Rick that it would be a $45 charge. I pulled out my print out from DOJ website stating that any firearm dealer cannot charge any more than $35 for such a transaction. He insisted that I was wrong. So I asked for the DOJ phone number and said that I should verify it. He begrudgingly said, ok, no problem, but I know you're wrong. But after this, I'm not going to do any more transfers for you. I called DOJ and got the response I expected. $35. I asked Rick if he wanted to talk with the guy at DOJ. He did so, and talked with him for 10 minutes. Afterwards, I asked him what the guy said. Rick shook his head and said that he'll go ahead and give it to me for $35, and then announced to his staff that they would no longer do any PPTs as there are just too many questions surrounding it.

I called DOJ right after the transaction and tried to find out what went on during their conversation. I got someone else than the original person who was on the phone with Rick, but he confirmed that the $35 fee was correct and that it is illegal for an FFL to refuse to do PPTs and that they would send someone out next week to talk with him.

So, there it is. My last dealing with the S SF FFL. Geesh.

So if he says some girl was to blame for him no longer wanting to do PPT. He's talking about me.

There is another FFL in San Leandro that I found to be easy to work with and fairly priced, at least for the Bay Area!

Security Six 510/638-9605

ETA: I paid $65 for the first firearm and $35 for the second.

Jicko, just to give you an update Don Gussler has raised his transfer fee. It is now $30 per gun, up from $25 per gun. Its not that much but just to keep things up to date.

Everything else is the same.

Good service (usually) and good people. OLL friendly. Not much stock on hand, but will do decent prices on orders. Springfield Armory stocking dealer
Jicko,

I just spoke with Diablo Valley Gun Works today (4/18/08) and they are charging $75 per gun + DROS. I confirmed there is no discount on this fee for additional guns.

Per your request, PM sent with info above.

Thanks for creating and keeping this thread up to date.

Here is another one for your list:
  • Richard Hudnut
  • 408-988-8608
  • Santa Clara
  • $40 Long Guns (when you call he will quote $65 but that includes DROS) and $50 Handguns (again, he will say $75).
  • No charge for additional long guns on the same DROS - He told me he once did 10 rifles on the same form for a customer.
  • Notes - No OLL's. I've used his service before and he is a friendly guy and willing to work with you for scheduling appointments (within reason I'm sure).
