Default Narcisa, Miss Romania 2013

I'd like to introduce my Calguns brothers to Narcisa. Getting ahold of her took some work, but she arrived in good shape. She is a 1958 Romanian, 100% matching parts, with a very fashionable leather sling (Thanks to Eddie 1965).

I came across her on Armslist and it took some back and forth with her former benefactor to arrange her travel plans. She still has a bit of cosmoline here and there, and all of her internals are in mint condition. Her bore is immaculate.

Here are some pics of my lovely new eastern European beauty:

Well then it should be easy... Just check your log entries...

I believe they should all get to go to the range and do what they were designed to do. I also think every gun owner should enjoy the pleasure of shooting them.

Use her -- she wants to be used ... then lovingly cleaned and put away satisfied.

no. Some rifles have achieved a level of greatness that they are not to be shot. Yes even though they were designed to be shot, the Gods of War have granted them immortality and should forever be preserved. Considering that is an all matching Romy SKS that has never seen a second of combat, survived all these years of being locked away and only been shot a few times during it's test fired procedures...she deserves to live in peace.

Vegas you would be the guys to shoot An East German or Non-refurb 1949 SKS hu?

I want to get a North Korean SKS, put a spam can of corrosive ammo through it, and then immediately store it on my boat for a year.

Nice score, especially on that sling. My Romy currently wears a Chinese sling (heresy, I know ) until I can find a nice romy sling.

Nice gun! I love a classic SKS.

Here's a word of warning that I'm sure you will also hear from others - for the love of God and all that is Holy - DO NOT try to fire this gun until you have broken down the bolt, removed the firing pin, and cleaned the FP channel with heavy solvent and big-bore pipe cleaners. You mentioned cosmoline, and it can stick the FP in the forward position leading to a runaway full auto. In practice this event is not as fun as it sounds in theory - a guy died at Chabot a few years back when this happened. You have no way of knowing for sure if a previous owner or the seller has done this - CHECK IT YOURSELF.

And then get out and spend some sweet lovin' time at the range with that gal! HAVE FUN!

Yes, this is all true. I always knock the retaining pin out and clean the firing pin and channel before shooting it. You want to hear the pin rattling back & when you shake the assembled bolt.

It is also a good idea to 'test fire' your SKS with only 2 rounds in the rifle, just in case of a slamfire. I have NEVER had a slamfire, but then I always PMCS my weapons (Thanks Uncle Sam).

While cleaning first is excellent advice I have to ask: The guy at Chabot never bump-fired an SKS?

I do understand the condition of guns can affect shooting them. But, it would be an extremely rare SKS that will be hurt by limited shooting while taking care.

(Bump firing would not be considered careful)
