Default S&W 15 rear sight

Was going to remove the rear sight on my S&W ar. removed the threw pin expecting the sight to just slide off ?. i do not like to force things. It did not budge ?. Nothing online about it being a problem removing it. My guess is it is just tight and it slides off fore or aft.

Thought I read something somewhere that if you take it off the nut (or something) gets ruined and you have to buy a new one. Run into any problems like that?

No i reinstalled the pin in the nut without a problem. It is a very deep angle thread and it had lock tight on it. I just cleaned it and added a little grease to it.
I might never re install it as i like the red dot better than the peep sight. I like the look of a carry handle [ VN Vet ] with its peep sight if not using scope or red dot.

On a Model 15 revolver you would be correct; OP is about a AR.
