I knew this would make an appearance. Some of the guns people are listing are only $400-600 and are roster exempt. Just save up a few bucks here and there then and live your dream.

I could buy them... if I found them available:

1) J. Edgar Hoover's Registered .357 Magnum. It's out there somewhere...

2) One of the original test Lugers chambered in .45ACP.

3) My Dad's Winchester Garand from when he served in the Marines; surely it survived if not later used and lost in Korea or Vietnam, or broken down for parts. If it ended up at CMP and then sold to the civilian market, that would be awesome.

So many of the replies are of guns that you could buy right now with little effort and their cost is pocket-change; just go to the damned store already and buy them. Some are even on sale at Turners on a regular basis! Many can be found right here in the For Sale section on Calguns!

What's holding you back? Lack of money? Is that the reason for your "couldn't"?

When I think of "if you could" I merely think of something that is legal, and you could, but not available solely due to obscurity.

My experience is pretty limited right now, but I wouldn’t mind having a Glock 43, the Taurus Judge, and maybe takedown semi auto rifle.

I said that earlier. I know not everyone is a whale living large but they aren't big dreams or fantasies just mow a few lawns or something or cut back on beer or non essentials. I mean guns that can be had for $400-600 are being listed.

I have most of what I want but I have some oddball firearms that I would not mind picking up -

Marlin Model 62 in .30 Carbine
Ruger Model 96 in .22 LR or .22 Mag
Either a S&W 1917 in .45 ACP or a Colt New Service in .45 Colt. (I already have the Colt 1917 in .45 ACP.)

It is more than 3, but also a Colt pocket hammerless in either .32 or .380.

From the '60s, even in plain blue would be nice, classic lines all of them.

Hoover had many firearms.

Several months ago at little johns auction in Orange. There was a colt single action in 357, case hardened that was presented to him by Colt. Had all the documentations, and paper work going with it that it was his gun.

Some of the guns being mentioned are on roster and available for $400-600. Some shops offer layaway too.
