Default Trip to San Diego this week- want to get recent updates about where I can carry

I've searched and found some older references to most of these, but not all. Our itinerary includes:

- The Zoo
- Beaches/tide pools in La Jolla (not really planning on swimming)
- USS Midway
- Belmont Park (? my wife says we will be doing mini golf, rides, laser tag, etc)
- Balboa Park, including some museums or sites there

Am I GTG with carrying at these places? Anything else I should know? My IA is Sacramento, btw.

Is USS Midway a Federal property?

I don't think so. It was donated to (and is owned by) a 501(c)3 non-profit named the San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum.

No signs or scanners at the zoo when I was there in April.

I recall someone asking about the Midway recently and the response came back that they have scanners.

No scanners at the Zoo. Beaches and Balboa Park are all wide open public spaces so you're good there. I haven't been to Belmont Park in years but it would surprise me if they have scanners. But obviously I could be wrong on that.

San Diego currently has about 2400 permits issued. Most of these in the last year or so. My guess is that law enforcement here isn't real used to dealing with CCW permits yet on traffic stops. So if you do get stopped, just be a little extra careful as you may be dealing with a nervous cop if you tell him you're carrying.

I was at Belmont Park last year around September, I know not very recent, there were no detectors/scanners.

There were SDPD officers patrolling and mobile command post because it was crowded so keep it concealed.

Pretty much all those spots have no scanners and are GTG, I carry at the zoo regularly. Seaworld and the County Fair have scanners, so if you end up going there leave it in the car.

Just be aware that at the Midway, you have to duck through hatches and climb steep stairs, they recommend gal's don't wear skirts for this reason so just make sure you stay concealed.

Got home from the trip yesterday, so here is my report as of late May 2019 (which confirms what was said here):

USS Midway- they have signs prohibiting weapons and have security that does a very brief baggage check, but no magnetometer.

The zoo- as others have said, no issues carrying there

Belmont Park- no security to pass through, but they do have signs prohibiting weapons. There was a light police presence there. Some activities (like the rock wall) might be a little tough to keep concealed

Balboa Park- We went to the Air and Space Museum. No security or issues carrying there.

Thanks for the feedback!

Glad you enjoyed your visit!

Just throwing this out there. No go for sea world, my wife is there now and there are metal detectors.
