got borescope?
Iben waiting for a long time for GUN TESTS to compare the Lyman video bore inspection system to the Hawkeye bore scope.
Sheesh. Canno wait no more. What, exactly, should I be looking for in the Hawkeye? For rifles, mostly? It is a tad confusing? |

IMO, if you don't even know what you're looking to see, a Hawkeye (or any usable borescope) would likely be a waste a money. That said, you can always learn that stuff.
They are generally used with rifles, but can be used for pistol barrels, revolver cylinders, even cartridge cases and reloading dies. Most people use them to verify that their cleaning routines are effective - for that, the Lyman will do fine (at a fraction of the cost of a Hawkeye.) You'll be able to see carbon rings in the throat, carbon in the land/groove corners, and copper deposits anywhere in the barrel (or verify removal of same.) You'll also see general wear (erosion in the throat, rust damage, etc.), not that you can do anything about it. Likely, you'll also see how ugly barrels look when looking up close (unless you have a fairly new custom barrel.) If you're looking at/for flaws in barrels and the like, a Hawkeye would (IMO) be more suitable (you also have to know what you're looking at/for, know what is and isn't a problem, and realize there's probably not a lot you can do about it if it is in a completed barrel. Other than replacement, that is. FWIW, I have a Lyman (prior generation from the current model.) I use it mainly to verify cleaning. Occasionally to check wear to see if I should move on a new custom barrel (which will take 1-6 months to receive.) Last edited by divingin; 05-28-2019 at 8:40 AM.. |

If you're looking for a rigid borescope looks like the Hawkeye are over $1000.00
I would buy something like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stryker-502...kAAOSwym1cyycF Quality will be way better as long as it's not damaged. I work for a company that sells surgical equipment. |
