How to transfer inherited shotgun from canada?
When my grandfather passed away almost 10 years ago, he had left me a 1935 Krieghoff Shotgun that is stored at my uncles house in Canada. 3 years ago, my uncle passed away and I think its time I get it before it's lost forever. Does anyone know the process I have to go through to get this shotgun from canada?
I wish I had more information about it, but I'm not sure who its registered to if its registered at all. My grandmother and aunt are still alive, so if its registered to my uncle or grandfather would the be the ones responsible for the shotgun? Any help on the process would be appreciated. Thanks |

This is a useful link: http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/factsheets/will_e.asp As far as Canada goes, the shotgun _should_ be registered, but there is an amnesty at the current time. http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/faq/default_e.asp#a5 Your grandmother/aunt need to have a PAL to legally have possession of the shotgun, regardless of whether the gun has been registered or not. If the gun was registered, export wouldn't be a big deal: http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/faq/import_e.asp#f2 I've got no good answers for you, aside from the fact your aunt/grandmother need to dispose of the gun one way or another if they wish to remain within the law. -- Michael |

Call Simpson Ltd. They did an import from Canada in 2003 for me. Painless, handled the whole thing.
