Default Garand by Beretta

So I was in City of Orange today and went to my usual spots and in this small gun shop found something special. A Garand built by Beretta in Italy. I didn't even know they built Garands so it was shocking to me also finding out only around 2000 were built in the 50's.
Enjoy!

To bad it wasn't a Beretta BM59!
(A Garand style rifle, in .308 with select fire and a detachable 20 round mag! Also made in the 50's)
Now, that would have been a steal!

There are a couple on Gunbroker for $20,000, I was surprised that they're the same price as M16s. I'd rather have the BM59.

It would have been 4K if it was at Fowlers.

I served with one of those in the early 1990s (I was drafted by the Italian government, as it used to be for all Italian residents back then). One year.

I shot with one of those, marched miles with one of those.

I've seen a few of those Santa Fe Berettas over the years and always turned my nose up at them. I'd much rather have an FKF Danish.

Neither Stockade nor Sam Foulups has ever been known for their good deals.

That's commercial Beretta. This is a military Beretta example.

I also have a Dane FKF in pristine condition. Prices went up on these pretty significantly too since they're no longer being brought back to the states.

I have a Springfield Receiver Garand with a Danish barrel and Beretta bolt. I guess that is kinda similar.

How do small, dusty gun stores with extravagant prices and no selection, staffed by an crotchety old guy in a flannel shirt with glasses on the tip of his nose who thinks everyone who walks in the door is an idiot stay in business?

i have no idea.

and Crotchey Gunstore Guy is one of the reasons i'm sick of this hobby and am slowly selling off everything.

you'd think with how endangered it is, how old the hobby skews, and how the barriers to entry with this hobby are higher and higher that they'd be a bit more welcoming and helpful and try to pass it on.

(ps bobby i'll sell you my sks now if you want it)

I recall an infuriating situation where I was doing a PPT and selling a completely legal "featureless" AR-15. The crotchety gun store guy mumbled non-stop about "gadgets used to circumvent the law" referring to the grip fin on the rifle. I told him I was not circumventing any law whatsoever and everything was completely legal.

He went on with his passive aggressive mumbling as I finished the paperwork and paid. I walked out still hearing "derp derp derp circumvent compliance law huzza duzza derp derp derp.."

The crotchety old guy that acts like his stuff is the beat deal in town, and it's impossible to find it anywhere else? Yeah, I hate that guy. Just because it's 40 years old doesn't make an H&R single barrel 12ga worth $250. "You can't get these ones anymore." Well I can find them on the classifieds for $100-150, and maybe even $75 if I look hard enough.

Sarco has 3 BM59s in stock. $1200, $1500 and $1600

http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/rifles.aspx

The $1200 one doesn't have pictures. Italian BM59 lower on page.

Yeah, you would want to discuss with someone who did a lot of digging into these.

Personally, if I was looking into that action, and .308 win (which I actually am) I would get a Springfield Armory M1A national match. Known source, warranty, parts, etc.

Of course, without history... but still.

Why not buy a genuine Italian military rifle, like my 6.5 Carcano? Never fired, and only dropped once.
