I am looking for an FFL for a PPT bolt action rifle transfer this weekend, somewhere along the 405 corridor in LA. To clarify, an FFL that is happy to do this PPT business, unlike Martin Retting.

This thread has gotten a bit diluted with recent additions and needs to be cleaned up and the actual numbers added to the table in the first post.

For clarification:

PPT where both the buyer and seller walk into the shop at the same time is limited by law to a TOTAL of $35 (unless you have to purchase a lock).
I suspect that at least some of these "$35" comments are PPT.

For an internet/mail order transfer, I can guarantee you that they are not $35 including DROS except for a couple of kitchen-table FFLS (there's one in Ridgecrest and one in Bako that are in that ballpark).
Most shops are in the range of $50-$100 total.

I registered just to post this. The list has City Arms in Pacifica, but not City Arms East in Pleasant Hill (925-691-5017).

City Arms East quoted me: $25 CA + $45 transfer + sales tax.

How does one get on the list of transfer dealers?

Cash Loan (South City Pawn) in SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO handles transfers. We charge $80 Total (includes DROS) for regular purchases, $45 Total (including DROS) for PPT transfers and we discount for volume buyers. No other fees charged.

Charging $45 for a PPT is illegal as the maximum that can be charged, excluding HSC, is $35, $25 for the DROS and $10 for the FFL. There is no sales tax. I am quite surprised that a FFL would be advertising illegal activity in a public forum.

I have an update for Ade's Gun Shop/Em & M Guns Jewelry & Loan.

Transfer rate effective May 1st, any shipment/transfers coming from Bud's Gun Shop/ Bud's Police Supply is now $100 with LEO/ Mil discount of $85.

This is a necessary business decision and we apologize for anyone who is affected by this. If anyone has any questions or concerns about this; please message me.

do you mean $75 handling + $25 DROS? The CADOJ DROS fees are always $25, everything above the $25 is a dealer fee, and must be listed as such.

"Independence Armory 707.773.4867 Petaluma $40($25)"

This is not correct. I have done two out of state transfers on firearms there in the past couple months and both times I was charged $100 ($75 for transfer $25 DROS) plus taxes. I do not have information on what they charge for an additional firearm transfer at the same time.

Hello Cal-Gunners,

I own a company in Riverside by the name of FirePower Depot and I only charge $10.00 on top of the $25.00 for out of state transfers. Let me know if I can help you with any firepower needs.

$40 out the door for FFL transfers is the best price I've found in California so far.

I'm bumping this because I just called to inquire about a transfer, and they told me the price is now $65 for the transfer, and then another $30 for DROS fees.... so $95 total for a FFL transfer. This was as of 6/22/11.

Has anyone transferred a firearm to them recently and did you have to pay this much? I just wanted to know since I was looking to get a single-shot converted handgun sent down, and they're the closest FFL who will accept a SSE firearm. Otherwise, I'd rather pay around $50 and drive almost an hour to get it done.

The DROS fee is $25. If they claim that it is more than that it is illegal.

Are you willing to go to Simi Valley, which is fairly close, plus the sales tax is 7.25% now.

Fort Courage in Simi Valley is well worth the drive. Otherwise I suggest in going to Oaktree Gun Club. No hassle or attitudes like some of the other big name/chains in the Valley and other places!

We're 20 minutes away from you in beautiful Thousand Oaks with a 7.25% tax rate as well. Conveniently located right off the 101 freeway.
