As to ammo They inspect on day 1 only, what you have in your car and bring after lunch is on you If it blows up, it's on you If it hurts someone, it's on you, even worse considering you just told FS you were using factory ammo, that fact WIL be used against you, not sure if in NV it could be a crime to have done that |

Well, we'll just see what happens. I'll bring enough factory and hand loaded I guess and see if they really get on it. I dump brand new factory ammo into loose bags for storage at times, rarely, but it does happen. I doubt something not being in a factory box would be an indicator.

One of our instructors told us about the cameras when some of the students were picking up their bullets during breaks. He was serious about the cameras, but allowed a couple people continue to retrieve their dropped belongings for a few minutes. |

I agree the no reload rule is on your honor. Also It was very difficult to leave your ejected ammo on the ground from clearing malfunctions and drops. They did eventually let us pick it up but not the brass. It was very cool to be allowed to draw from the holster and fire two shots under timed conditions. It was fantastic. My insurance company would not let me drive a lap in my car while being timed. I had a great time and can't wait to get back. They also got my wife confident in her ability to load unload clear and deliver two quick shots.

I'm in Manteca, definitely want to get out there for at least a 2 Day Handgun course if not the 4 Day.
Best time of year to go?

New Spring Break record?
Heard that 675+ students are enrolled this Friday and another 675+ on Monday. The 4 day class overlap on Monday could be a new record of 1100+ students. Anybody gonna be there that can report back? Take pictures! |

I was there the same time last year and they had to have all the rifle guys meet in the white tent as the auditorium was filled with all the handgun students. Parking went all the way to the Doors and they had shuttles bringing people to registration. |

The auditorium was filled and overflow in the white tent when I was there too (feb 22-25)
There was 80+ kids at the time too, that all went to the 'other white tent' closer to the gate |

they only check ammo when you sign in and before first live fire. but if your gun blew up... or worst, you rented their gun and blew up. (happened several times before in FS, according to records on their website) |

When I take the rifle class in the fall, I am going to bring a brass savr. I will not have it installed during weapons inspection. I wonder what safety excuse they will use to make me take it off??? They may actually like it when I shoot my SAR-8 as it throws the brass out violently straight at the shooter to my right. They probably dont want folded in half 308 brass anyway...

Leaving brass behind is bad enough, but some Rangemasters will not allow you to retrieve your live ammo dropped during malfunction training and testing. That's what frosts my butt.
Some of the better instructors allow it, but they caution you to place it in a pocket, inspect it later and if it's GtG shoot it the following day. That makes way more sense than a strict prohibition on recovering live ammo. The dropped ammo may have defects from slamming into other rounds, dents and dings from the slide, any number of issues aside from dirt or debris. I also fail to see the liability for FS if I use commerical remanufactured ammo (aka reloads) or my handloads. If I'm using my gun, my ammo, I've already signed off that I have the finanical ability to cover medical injuries, range damage, etc. so I blow my barrel up with my ammo....what's the deal? If injure another shooter that's on me too. I understand the policy, but not the enforcement. Don't ask, don't tell. If you muff the test or other exercise because your non-factory ammo failed, that's your bad, move on. With the so called "ammo shortage" crisis, shooters may have become, shall I say, creative. I suspect class attendance may get lighter as a result. Oh well, I know I called off my son and I's attendance to the 4 day rifle this weekend.

Taking a pistol class a few years ago A guy down the line destroyed his Glock with a groundscore round, bloodied his hand, but luckily, that was all. With careful investigation, they figured that the round (which he picked-up in the shoot house) was a double charged reload that FTF on the first 2 tries and kaboomed on the 3rd. $600 gun lost to a $.20 reload...
Classes are dangerous enough (more so when they did the night shoots), being able to eliminate a risk of a student hurting themselves, another or an instructor with a reload is a worthwhile rule for them. The "that's on me" part won't fly with lawyers, however good your word is. I would love to shoot reloads too, but it's not my house... |

Yesterday's attendance number was 1079. Parking was crazy and that did not even include the students who parked on phase two.
The morning welcome session occupied the main classroom and the white tent. For the first time ever, they had to stagger lunch times, students on the fourth day went first. Stockpile Defense was worried about availability. One of the workers was trying to talk me out of a full course's worth of ammo. |

I wouldn't say unpleasant. I'm happy and encouraged to see so many people come out to train. Yeah, it was kinda crowded, but I'm sure most people enjoy being out there.
I didn't care that it was crowded. My class took place well away from the crowds. There are very few of us on our range. |

perhaps thats why there aren't very many 2-day handgun skill builder classes listed. I want a class that's Fri-Sat or Sun-Mon so that I only have to miss one day of work, but I dont' see that option until Sept.

Grandson, son and myself took the 2-day shotgun this past Mon.-Tues. Place was packed as others have stated. Weather was nice, for the desert. Class had 2 and 4 day people mixed in. Came home with about 60 rounds of OO buck that wasn't shot.
Have to say that my new 930SPX kicked a** on the tactical course. Hit the bad guy steel with ease at 50yrds with a off hand shot . After 3 rotor cuff operations to my right shoulder I thought I might be hurting,my 930's recoil was not a problem at all . Spent yesterday cleaning 2 shotguns |

I'll see you there. With the frequency they offer these, I'm expecting that class to be PACKED, or split into two.

My wife and I are ambassador members and have yet to take a class, submit for a background check, or submit the character witness letters. We are headed out to Las Vegas with family next week and wanted to stop by and check out the facility. Does anyone know if there are any issues with this? Do we just need bring our membership cards? I will contact them and ask but I figured someone here may know as well. Thanks.
