thank you, you're too kind.

you know, if we have several new lady shooters...or even not so new who are just interested...we could get together and i'd be happy to just go over the basics so that everyone is comfortable with their shooting...pro bono.

if there is interest in an actual class from that...who am i the oppose the will of the group

That would be awesome! Count me in. I went shooting last night and can see I need all the help I can get! lol
Anyone else in the Northern Cali area (near Sacramento, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, Citrus Heights, Orangevale, Wilton, etc) interested??

And if no group type class ever happens, after the new year, I definitely want to take more lessons!

If someone wants to set something up close enough for me to attend (assuming you girls will let a guy come) I'd be up for helping out by being a teacher's aid and volunteering whatever firearms I have along with ammo to help get this going. Maybe I could convince my wife to come too.

Ok, so first, should we redirect this meet up conversation to the range/meet up section? Second, where is everyone so we can get an idea how many meet ups we're looking at? 9mmepiphany and I are in Northern Cali (near Elk Grove/Rancho/Citrus Heights/Roseville area)... it sounds like there are more So Cal folks answering?

I would encourage you to start such a thread, but to disseminate the final details through PM, so that you can have a little control over who shows up.

Interesting... so does your wife mind your daughter shooting? Or is it just that she personally doesn't enjoy the sport?

My mom refuses to "let" my "dad" have a gun. lol, She gives him the look of death any time he mentions an interest in firearms. It's pretty pathetic to see a 300 pound "man" being controlled by a 100 pound woman's glare.

Wow! This is complicated. Most men are not that complicated. Pretty much straight line thinkers, if we think at all.

Safety is the only exception, though. If they're being unsafe, I'll stop them immediately.

I have heard from female shooters that many hate it when a male shooter not only feels the need to "correct" her technique, but also thinks it appropriate to touch her without permission while doing it.

Are you just now discovering that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world? I have been cultivating my grand daughters for a decade to understand that they set the parameters of society. In western society, we (men) will push the envelope only as far as they permit.

I would notice a woman shooting next to me but as for being surprised no not really. Women are allowed to be as gun crazy as guys are. I have a niece that can damn near outshoot me. And before anyone laughs im not a crappy shot. She can outshoot my buddy who is a MP.

Not a gal here, but it seems to me when a female shows up to the range, suddenly everyone becomes a target shooting instructor.

That's only because I was hitting on her. And her, And her too.
Someday, I'll hit upon the right one and we will waste countless ammo together.

But seriuosly, I usually look at a female shooter as a credit to the gender. More women should learn to shoot, Then the bad guys may think twice when a, pardon the expression, defenceless female.... puts a gun to their vitals during an assualt.

I feel the exact same way. I wish more women would realize that ultimately, their personal well being and safety is in their hands and their hands alone! What's more, as I've found, shooting is EMPOWERING! And I don't mean empowering like the feminazis preach about, I mean actual empowerment!

I have to agree with all of you... it's like learning how to drive. Why wouldn't you want to learn something that can help you in a pinch?

Besides, I was never much good with a needle and thread - lol

Hmmm. I don't feel empowered when I shoot.

I feel mighty accurate though.

Took a whole bunch of friends to an Indoor range 2 weeks ago and one of them was a girl...Besides me, it was their first time shooting a handgun at the range and well...she outshot all of the other guys and even asked to shoot several rental guns to see how they recoil

Ask questions. Unwanted input from a guy seems like kibitzing. I watched a girl shooting prone at our range. Never thought to give advise. Good thing, she was practicing for the Olympics.

I have gone to the range a few times with some girls I know and have noticed that either people will just look and see a girl shooting. There have been times were I have been explaining something to them and a guy will come and start flirting / hitting on them. I guess it goes both ways.

Always glad to see safe Lady shooters @ the range. When I teach the Action Pistol class @ USI, I always remind the Men, we are participating in a Gentlemen's game & inappropriate language/behavior will not be tolerated.

at the IDPA matches all the guys have been very friendly and willing to give advice, I don't mind at all. In fact I really like the free 'lessons'! Everyone I've run into welcomes the ladies and doesn't seem put off by us at all.

BTW-I'm in SD if any ladies get together around my neck of the woods.

That's much appreciated -- my local clubs are run by like-minded people, so I've been very lucky.

Yeah, they all looked at me like WTF. But that was because I wasn't always pointing my gun down range, so I think I deserved it. It was my first time and I didn't know!!! Then a shell went down the front of my shirt and I started jumping up and down because it was hot, and I got that look all over again. What I've learned: guns only point at targets and leave the exposed cleavage at home when going to the range- Targets aren't impressed by perky boobs!! HAHA

So true! I feel semi frumpy when I go to the range, but overall having it all hanging out isn't sexy when it could end up hurting me! lol
