Default Kar98k Loading Issue?

I'm using Soft Grain Prvi 8mm Ammo and when I feed with a stripper clip maybe 3 out of 5 times the last round or 2 will get stuck and not go into the magazine. The other 2 times it'll feed smoothly, but nonetheless it's inconsistent. What I noticed is when I push one round slightly in, I can then insert the remaining 1 or 2 rounds.

Now when I load them individually into the magazine it'll be fine but I wanted to do a test and moved the rounds all the way back hitting the stripper guide and realized the rounds won't go in no further.

So I'm not sure if this is an issue with my magazine spring or magazine plate.

Any solutions?

What is it sticking on? Sticking in the stripper clip, or hanging up in the magazine?

Does it do it with every clip you have?

Put your thumb closer to the clip and push harder.

I have never had trouble with a stripper clip on any of my mausers. The only time I had hang ups was the feeding of 308 rounds into my Israeli 98k. They got stuck on the block inserted before the feeding ramp. I have heard that was a common problem with Israeli mausers.

As I recall, I push down with my right thumb and pull the stripper clip out with my left hand, don't recall any problems. Is that the way you are suppose to do it or are you only suppose to only use your right hand?

Hmm that's weird. My K98 doesn't have hangups like that, I was thinking it would be an issue with a specific clip.

What flavor clip? I've had that happen with the Turkish ones.

Have you tried any other brands ormilsurp ammo in the clips? Reason I ask, Privi has had a few minor issues with base/rim/groove specs on their brass. The first 6.5 Swede ammo they made, had some rounds that wouldn't even feed into the bolt face from the mag.

I think it's the magazine plate or spring. I tried loading rounds individually and if I put a few rounds too far back, it won't allow me to push in another round into the mag.

Yeah mauser mag followers can be finicky. One of mine, can't remember which now, would kind of get tweaked in there sometimes when loading. Once you get used to what it's doing, you can almost feel what you need to do for it to work right. Or you could try replacing it I guess. I never did. Also don't generally mess around with stripper clips at this point either.
